Maybe Tom thought those numbers were good but HBO's top execs were not thinking the same way.
Hershman loss his job behind this PPV fiasco. It was all in part done by him to slight Showtime/ Haymon/ Mayweather and it backfired big time.

Looks like the only man standing in the end is Al Haymon/PBC.

GBP has one fighter left that's worth anything.
Top Rank is beefing with their star fighter and the others are either barely active or suing him.
K2 just got their biggest ally fired over his personal beef with Haymon and their desire to force a fighter down our throats instead of letting the social media driven public decide.

Good riddance :hi: and maybe the new boss of HBO sports can work with Haymon and get a Top Rank/ PBC alliance going so we can see some cross promotional s****s.:bbb

I hope HBO and Haymon can work together again that's the best thing that can come out of this.

Interesting. No reason has been noted yet as to why the surprise move has come about.

Incidentally did HBO ever release official numbers on the last ppv?

Never. They were always boasting about it before the May/Pac fight but never did for this one.

All I know is that nobody resigned at Showtime because of Mayweather/Berto. Looks like somebody should send CBS president Les Moonves an apology e-mail.

    That'd be pretty awesome.

Where's all the people that laughed when Showtime execs resigned or got fired when Haymon caused a stir? Is this not similar?

The networks are filled with European Russian heritage execs who hype these mediocre talents in an attempt to hoodwink the public into believing they are the new breed of boxing pugilists.
The public is not fooled and showed their disdain by not spending their hard earned dollars to see yet another mismatch bout forced into the main event of what was otherwise a very good undercard.
In truth, this event was only suitable for Al Haymon's free PBC venue, or ESPN.

Thankfully, people aren't as dumb as Hershman thinks they are and they let their dollars do the talking.

So apparently, one of Hershman's last official comments as head of HBO sports was:

“From Olympic gold medalist, to two-time world champion, to winning all 28 of his professional bouts and dominating the super middleweight division, Andre Ward has demonstrated that he is among the finest performers in the sport,” said Ken Hershman, President, HBO Sports. “We are delighted to have Andre as part of our family, fighting exclusively on the HBO platforms.”

No where to be found when the shoe is on the other foot so typical.

HBO sometimes does this, though? No?

Meaning they don't always release official numbers?

In any case, without an official announcement from HBO, we don't know the real numbers. We can safely guess that the true number probably falls somewhere between... what were the reported claims? 97,000 and 150,000?

I've read the article on Yahoo and there's absolutely nothing that suggests his resignation has anything at all to do with GGG. He has been exceptionally successful overall during his tenure. GGG vs Lemieux also did decent numbers for a PPV debut and it will only get better, quite possibly at least double with a name opponent.

HBO Sports senior vice president Mark Taffet, who runs HBO PPV, said the event was a strong first-time pay-per-view effort for Golovkin.

"Golovkin-Lemieux met or exceeded every benchmark of success which was set going into the event," Taffet told ESPN.com. "The PPV buys solidly met expectations even amidst the Mets-Cubs national telecast registering the highest-ever TBS baseball playoff viewership, including the PPV-critical markets of New York and Chicago. This, combined with the palpable excitement of the sold-out crowd in Madison Square Garden and the in-ring performances by Gennady Golovkin and [co-feature winner Roman] 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez, encourage us that the next great era of boxing has begun and will continue with the highly-anticipated [Miguel] Cotto-Canelo [Alvarez)] megafight on Nov. 21."

HBO's statements regarding the PPV per ESPN

Side note: you're such a troll, Willie. There is absolutely zero correlation between GGG's PPV and him stepping down. Stop spreading this garbage.

97,000 is a joke. It's already been refuted by credible reporters who called it "a figment of someone's imagination".

The number is a couple thousand over 150K. Official number. Period.

So like I said, though, they never actually released official numbers?
