George wasn't gonna "knock out" Jimmy Young no matter what the conditions were. He was too damned defensively smart for Foreman.
I have to admit that I never found out why so many people thinks that Jimmy Young was the greatest boxer on the planet. On the other hand if only five people on this site thinks so, it can look like the whole world thinks so. I was never impressed by Young.
Jimmy Young was a heavyweight version of Nicolino Locche. It isn't written as law that everyone has to appreciate Young or defensive stylists, but there's no reason to wonder why he has his fans.
I admit that Young was somewhat boring but I still feel he won the Ali/Norton fights. Not by a landslide of course but by close decisions anyway. Imagine if he had gotten those decisions along with defeating Foreman? How would we rank him?
Well, I think that he would still be somewhat unpopular with the casual fans...but his esteem would be so much higher...being remembered as a champion, rather than a guy who got robbed by the judges so much.
George wouldn't have had that mental instability he had in '77 and would have gotten to Young early and taken him out in '74. That survivalist **** wouldn't have worked in '74.
