Could Norton have taken Joe at any time in that time frame iyo? Personally I'd say after The Thriller, Kenny stops h im. But even a year or so before, then Joe is the favourite to win. Imo.
Kenny knows he wouldn't beat him when it mattered. So does Joe. As for the question, let me just say this: 'Could' is the funniest word in the English language, and it's even funnier in some other languages. And we should explore that together on the forum forever. And we will.
Nope. Not with that hand placement--wide open for left hooks. Then add to it that Joe will be backing him up. So now you'd have Norton backing up against a devastating left hooker. And lefthooks to the breadbasket and head---unlike most who are strictly headhunters.
Do you see Kenny losing to post Manila Frazier too. I see that version of Joe, just a little too shot, maybe Ken s only real chance to be honest.
Yep. The version he beats is the guy that had the bout w/ Knoetze cancelled. That version would have been the same that showed up against cummings. But Norton was hardly on fire himself. For the Ali 3 he was. Ali 2? good. But not all the others. And you had the Foreman destruction in there--so they did not want to put Kenny in with the division's hitters > that pummeling.
Perhaps. Frazier hated sparring with Norton, even calling sick on ocassion so he doesn;t have to go through the scheduled rounds. Kenny was all sorts of awkward and tricky. He didn't fancy getting into the ring with him either. Granted, anything Joe says about Kenny is going through the lenses of friendship.
Joe and Ali were damaged goods after FOTC as far as I'm concerned. Never did they display that level of furiosity in a fight before or after again. After Thrilla in Manilla, Joe was ruined and after the fight with Shavers, Ali was ruined.
I tend to agree,Fergy. Up to Manilla, inclusive,Joe beats Ken but afterwards I have Ken as the favourite.
