Good comments. Foreman actually was a fine boxer in the ams and at the start of his pro career. Many a boxer has stunted themselves development wise after finding massive power in their mitts. Gerrie Coetzee was a fine stand up boxer pre hand operation. Wilfredo Gomez was brilliant defensively in his earlier days. Almost untouchable when he wanted to be. Edwin Rosario abandoned his slick and improving counterpunching skills after getting power happy. And who could forget Super Greg Page abandoning his incredible speed and reflex to later fight guys like Bey and Coetzee flatfooted!!! :smoke
I understand that, but what I'm saying is that I'm disapointed they didn't go more into the jabs and what not. Norton was past it yes, but fighters can put on performances like they are in their primes when they are past it.
Yeah Norton didn't talk at all about the Holmes jab did he. On a side note Norton named Shavers the hardest hitter, but he wasn't exactly convincing or sure. After extra thought he based it on him not getting up at all vs Shavers.
All i can say is... i'm glad you still managed to get your weekly mention of Super Greg. I don't know if you follow current boxing, but any picks on Taylor/Pavlik II or Lyakhovic/Valuev tonight?
Norton only talked about Ali's jab, I would have liked it if he talked about all of them, and the differences.
I was getting quite jumpy per the Super Greg mention, time was at a premium! However he was never far from the forefront Hmmmm, a bit behind the times but i see Pavlik stopping Taylor again. I'd like to see Taylor win but would have to stake my money on Pav.
Foreman used the jab in the Norton fight some.....shooting it at Norton's heart and knocking Kenny backwards. Chris is right. Foreman behind the jab against Ali would have been much more formidable..why he didn't use it is baffling.
It's usually the guy they have a win or wins against that they say is the best. And, yeah, Norton and Holmes have never liked each other.
I think this was the same interview that Ken named Ali as the strongest ever man he fought,as well. He said that when he punched Ali in the body,it was like hitting cement.
Yeah, another case of "the guy I did so well against is the strongest.." and not that 90 lb weaking that manhandled him named George Foreman...what bull****.
He's probably right. Norman Mailer once said that Lison's jab was " like a 2x4 coming at you from a basement window"..ol' Norman had a way with words didn't he?
I see what you mean,Cobra. Ken was probably boosting his own kudos in this - "The man who could n't figure out my style totally whipped the man who totally whipped me" kind of thing.
