RC, I've always thought Norton was a pretty unpretentious and honest guy, why do you think this? Could you shed some light on your views please?
Well, I admit I was a bit harsh on him in that post, but on the matter of referring to Ali as the "strongest"..hell, maybe he should review the film of him being terminated by Foreman...he accused Quarry of being "racist" a little too much...and downplayed Cooney's victory over him as well in an interview I read..and as a long time boxing mag junkie I follow these things very closely, and they all smacked pretty much of pretentiousness and pettiness. He was pretty damned nasty towards Quarry "whilst" he was drubbing him in their fight...posturing towards Jerry's girlfriend during the beating and that sort of disrespect..would he have done that to a black rival? He seemed to have a lower opinion of his white rivals, even if in a downplayed, subtle sort of way.
RC, thanks for your reply. All interesting stuff...I must admit I've never seen/read the interviews you refer too, nor the stuff with JQ's girlfriend. I've always thought of Ken as a real gent in interviews I've seen, pretty humble and dignified, he didn't seem to have toomuch bad to say about anyone...excepting perhaps Quarry. He came across well in his autobiography too...it's a good read. Mind you, I may be biased, I've always been a big fan pf Norton, ever since the first fight with Ali.
Again, I was abit harsh on norton. He was in general a dignified, well spoken chap, and that's sometimes as impressibve as what a fighter does in the ring.
