Ken Norton v James 'Bonecrusher' Smith

    Could Smith's big right have chinned Norton ?

    Or would Ken's better boxing skills prevail ?


    Gut instinct tells me the latter - Norton by clear decision.

    Bonecrusher had the necessary power to chin Ken, but not the necessary will to pull that trigger. I think you're correct here. They'll either be stationary in mid ring, or Ken will be countering effectively off the ropes. One either needed to be backing Norton up, or moving on Ken to keep him from unloading. Norton was excellent unloading his hook to the body, almost like a jab, and had much faster hands.

    Ken Norton should outbox him to win a clear decision. But if he got careless he'd pay the price.

    I don't think Smith would be aggressive enough.

    Norton wins probably 8 or 9 times out of 10.

    If Norton fights smart, he wins. If he gets to aggressive he might end up like Mike Weaver did against Smith.........KOed.
