Ok, first off, I love and celebrate both fighters. Their primes did not coincide though as Jerry peaked in the late 60's/early 70's and Norton definitely by mid to late 70's. I think Norton was a clean liver/straight arrow type and extended his prime a bit longer than Jerry did. Could Jerry hurt Kenny? This is old news for long time posters but Rick Ferris and others have stated that Jerry sparred with a green Norton (early 70's?) and generally dominated as well as one time knocking out Norton (right hand) when he got a bit too aggressive. Sparring means nothing, especially when two fighters are at different points in their career. Could Jerry hurt Kenny? Yes, especially when Jerry was a bit closer to prime and a late starting Ken Norton was still learning the pro game. Prime for Prime? Tough call on who the winner would be but definitely an intriguing match up of two exciting California born and bred heavyweights. Both a bit cursed too when looking back as Jerry battled with lifestyle choices, confidence and inconsistency and Kenny sometimes came apart against big punchers. Ken actually had confidence issues too which he dealt with the help of a psychiatrist. Post boxing Jerry ended up with puglistic dementia and Ken had a horrible car crash which ended a promising start as a sports agent. If circumstances where a bit different they both could have won a heavyweight title (Ken won a WBC interim version) and had better runs.
