Sometime during my winter repose, Tex Cobb and Bobick became legitimate championship level heavyweights. Perhaps I should resume my slumber and Ron Stander will become an all time great.
All those 3 guys could really punch. Purrity was gas tank related which Wlad fixed. Sanders was Wlad his leaky defence and not being prepared for a puncher southpaw, he also fixed that though never proved it against Sanders... Brewster was a freak accident, but Brewster was an extremely hard hitter anyway.
Remember that he quoted Earnie Shavers as the strongest puncher ever too But meanwhile when he faces a crackhead who was quoted as having the strongest left hook[1*] in the division who probably did hit harder than Shavers too busted Standers up in 3. And I hope people don't give the bull**** that Jeff Meritt is supposed to be more skilled than Shavers, Shavers never hit that hard. Chris Dundee, the fight promoter in Miami has offered George Foreman $50,000 to come to Southern Florida, and face the 6' 5" hard-hitting Merritt. The 24 year-old 'Candy Slim' claims to have a record of 29-1-0 (24 KO's), and has been fighting since 1964 when he was only Age 16. This content is protected Chris Dundee, 'Foreman has been saying that nobody wants to fight him, and he can't find anybody to put up decent money for a bout. Well, here it is $50,000 guaranteed for a bout in April, and in Miami. It could be billed as the 'Right Hook Meets the Left Hook'. Foreman has the best right hook in the business, and my guy has the best hook. It could be a blockbuster fighter. (50.000 dollar adjusted for inflation is 285000 dollar today) Calculated it with http://www.multpl.com/inflation/table along with being bored. It was a duck by Foreman who probably didn't want this risky fight against the big man. So much for the greatest hw era in hw boxing, in the end you can destroy every era with examples
Foreman came back,old,fat,40s in the 90s and won the title from "superheavies". Holmes was the same. Both were competivite with a younger Holyfield. Awesome example btw..another mind buster, up there with the HW/LHW MW/HW
Michael Moorer is a shw now? Or is Holyfield the shw right now? The 90s where Schulz got not one not two but three titleshots? (He beat Foreman btw) The Foreman that didn't want to fight Holmes for a big sum of money even after Holmes was beggin him? 90s had his weak points too.
Both were big and muscular. That's a superheavy isnt it? Or is a superheavy someone who's so top heavy they have no footwork?? I hope it's not the latter. Schulz had his shot because the other heavies were busy fighting each other. What's your point about Foreman/Holmes? You're trying to discredit one era over another yet these "old" men came back in there 40s against weight lifting giants half their age and were competivite/beat them. Speaks VOLUMES about the past wouldn't you say..
I've always liked Ken Norton as a fighter... From what I was told, he's a nice guy.. Was always in good shape. A good technician. And a man who would have been competitive in just about any era... But I've never liked his chances against either Klitscko. He didn't fair well against men who had the ability to super - impose themselves on him physically. He couldn't fight while being backed up, which he'd spend a fair amount of time doing against Wlad ( and Vitali. ) And while his chin is commonly over stated as being made of glass, ( which I don't agree with ) he'd still need a better set of whiskers to withstand a long distance fight against their power... Ken was a great fighter and one who has nothing to be ashamed of.. But i can't pick him to beat Wladimir Klitschko or his brother.
Vladimir may proceed a little slower than Cooney, Foreman,Shavers but he lands the jab and the right hand and the stoppage comes when Vlad decides its time and turns up the volume...Ken can not apply pressure because he can not close the gap of Vlads jab and right hand and a solid right & left hook start the process
