Frank's thoughts on the fight are probably why Bas has recently been quoted as saying this fight should have been a couple down the road. This fight is a big gamble for both fighters. Kimbo has the offense to bang out this version of Shamrock at any time. Shamrock's ground game is good enough that he can afford to take down Kimbo at any cost. Shamrock could probably risk ending up in Kimbo's side control or mount just to get the fight on the ground. The only reason this fight is happening now is because EliteXC is on it's way out if it doesn't generate some big revenues. If I were managing Kimbo; I would put up with the forum bashing and take a rematch with Thompson then fight Gannon so I could make sure his stamina and skill set develop a little more. I would then try Shamrock and Rogers. If successful, I would go for someone like Tito Ortiz for some serious money. Kimbo may never get to the level to compete with Ortiz, but that will be about as much money as he would get for anyone. If he made that far before getting exposed as a limited fighter, his bank account would love the expose. Chuck Liddell could also be available soon.
I agree completely. It's a dangerous fight for both men - which is what makes it intriguing. In reality it will probably be like that gif of the fight that is already making rounds. Kimbo throws one punch and Ken crumbles and it will make for an anticlimactic encounter to something that could have been intriguing. MMA fans will be pissed off and Kimbo fans will proclaim him the Greatest of All Time.
As much as Ken has been in the habit off being Ko'd in the first round, if the fight goes to the ground he could end the fight quickly. I think Kimbo has no ground skills, and poor take down defense. He showed that against Thompson.
It could happen. I didn't see James Thomspon have any trouble getting take downs over and over again. Thompson is famous for getting KTFO early- that is it.
This is an intriguing fight - because anything could happen. Classic striker vs grappler. Whomever controls the ring generalship should win the fight.
Yes. The only other possibilty is Ken has spent the last few years fighting with injuries, has suddenly recovered and re-discovered his powerful shot from the outside, who knows...:huh
I don't buy a lot into a fighter's excuses for losing a fight. Especially when they claim they were sick. I do try to keep an open mind though. What if a fighter was really telling the truth? Ken claims he was sick, lost a lot of weight, and just went through with fight anyway. Hard for me to believe after the way he stepped down from UFC 3 with an injury only after learning he would not be facing Royce for a chance at redemption. Anyway, he says he has the hospitalization records to prove it. I may select Shamrock in my monthly picks, but I won't be logging onto my bodog account to make a financial risk.
