Thing about the excuses though man is sure alot of times they are true but your not going to find many fighters that go into a fight without some sort of problems being family issues, sickness, injurys ETC. I had 1 amateur MMA bout recently sure I hadnt trained in 2 weeks, took the fight on a hours notice its not excuses I lost the bout because I made a mistake and my opponet took advantage I seriously doubt he went in 100 percent himself I mean I wasnt the only guy in the ring fighting someone on a hours notice to im sure it was hard for him to get ready for 1 guy who doesnt show up then to fight me who he knew nothing about. If any fighter thinks oh I only lost because I had this going on is a dumbass because odds are the opponet had his only issue/s.
Point taken. As I stated, I don't really pay much attention to fighter's excuses. Shamrock claimed to have some sickness that caused him to lose something like 20 pounds, and hospitalize him. If that were true, and I'm not saying it is, that could have handicapped him a bit more than the common cold.
Kimbo is too big a cash cow for Gary Shaw and Elite XC and will not lose this fight. Shamrock might make it close if he does not get blown away in the standup and is able to take it to the ground. Where is Shaw going to go from there if a former legend who is almost a decade past his prime upends the Kimbo express? Money talks and at this point Kimbo is much younger and more marketable than Shamrock is. So I expect Kimbo to win even if he gets a scare from the world's most dangerous man.
Its possible but hey makes excuses for every single fight he will say I make no excuses then in the next sentence talk about whats wrong with him. In the 3rd Tito fight he just said hes not able to hang in there with these younger guys anymore basically using his age as excuse,Tito got a bad stoppage in fight 2 and it was Shamrocks plan to have Tito pound him with elbows on the fence something along the line of allowing the bully to come to him atsch ,Sakuraba was a bad stoppage,1st Tito fight he had a blown out ACL (So did Tito) and he was dehydrated. He had heart problems vs Fujita. Not to mention he has all these shoulder injuries hes always talking about.
Quotes from the final press conference this week: KIMBO SLICE “Ken’s fighting in Florida, which is no place for an old man. I’m mentally prepared and ready to do it and represent the crib. It’s going to be ‘305’ (his area code) all day. “I work all the time on being an all-around fighter. I am very competitive by nature so I train very hard and have the best coaches (Bas Rutten and Randy Khatami). “I am going to get criticized all the time, but I enjoy MMA and try to represent the sport the best way I can. I have kids. I want to be the best kind of example I can be. “I do not feel like I am carrying (this promotion, the sport, etc). Gina, all these fighters, we are all in this together. “I am going to win this fight in any fashion I can. I want to annihilate him and win by knockout, but if I win it on the ground, that is all good, too. “I come from a no-knuckle background, so fighting with gloves is like hitting with mittens.” KEN SHAMROCK “Kimbo has gained a lot of notoriety, but, in my opinion, he doesn’t deserve it. Snap, crackle pop. I am going to walk across the ring, hit him on his ugly beard and break his leg. “I love to fight, that’s what I do. I want to thank CBS and EliteXC for putting me on this card. It is going to be a great one. I really appreciate all my fans’ support throughout all the ups and downs. “What CBS is doing is really giving back to the fans. To just be able to turn on the TV and watch is a great thing. “Most of the talking has all been said, so I will save the rest of my talking until Saturday.’’
It will be interesting. Thompson whom Slice defeated defeated Don Frye who defeated Shamrock. So there is a chance that Kimbo could beat an aged and over the Hill Shamrock. This is a really tough fight to call.
I had questions about Shamrock's character after UFC III, when he dropped out of the competition upon learning Royce had. Shamrock really gained some respect from me after the first beating Tito put on him, and his comments in the post fight interview. He made no excuses there, and made reference to Tito just being better. I lost all that respect a few months later when he started making the excuses. I haven't done any research to verify Shamrock's claims after his last fight.
I think he might be making that one up. I could have sworn I saw him with knuckles, on both hands at that.
I'm hearing both Rosa and Petruzelli were offered as replacements, but Gary Shaw declined. I'm not sure how true any of this is, but I find it funny that Shaw would rather promote a card with no main event than put Kimbo near anyone with anything even resembling a pulse.
