McKinney seems to be slipping between the cracks of boxing memory, which is too bad because he was a good, tough fighter with a lot of heart. Unfortunately he is not an all time great, but he is a good fighter that was tough and came to fight in every bout he was ever in. (at least that I've seen).
A decent enough post. With hindsight, it's probably a bit of an overstatement to call McKinney an all time great - I guess this term is chucked around like confetti when reminiscing about favourite fighters of old - and the fact that his career at top level was shortend by his dalliances with illegal substances does nothing to enhance his reputation. That said, I find it rather sad that this fine fighter is rarely (if ever) remembered as anything other than 'an opponent' for Barrera et al nowadays, which I think belies the immense talent he had.
I liked McKinney, the fight with poison was a classic and i still love watching it.Unfortunately for McKinney,he had too much adversity outside of the ring.
