Kenny Egan v.s Xiaoping Zhang - anybody remember that awful decision?

    Terrible. I remember watching this with my Grandfather(who knows next to nothing about boxing) and even he saw that Egan clearly won. Pure corruption. The Beijing games were completely rigged in favor of Chinese athletes.

    Interesting fact. Irish Book Maker paddy power payed out to all that bet on Egan, that's how bad that decision was.

    At the time Ireland was more disappointed than upset that Egan didn't win but looking back in it he got robbed

    In saying Arthur beterbeiv also got robbed by the Chinese guy and if he didn't get robbed he would have knocked 7 shades of shite out of kenny Egan in the final anyway .

    The decision that really pisses me off is joe ward getting robbed out of his Olympic place by the Turk in Turkey .that was probebly the worst robbery Iv ever seen and ward would have probebly won old if he got there

    Yeah, seems like the Irish have been very unlucky in the amateurs over the last few years.

    Egan wouldn't have won good anyway if the tournament was fair anyway

    Barnes should have won against shiming last time out

    Nevin was ridiculously unlucky at the 2011 world championships and at the 2009 one he flat out got robbed

    But the ward robbery was the one that hurt the most

    Conlon was on the end of a bad decision against a Russian at the 2013 champions

    Being honest....Kenny Egan underperformed in the final, and the Chinese boxed a decent fight. Egan however in either the 3rd or 4th round landed quite a few clean shots which were not registered as points, Kenny was never getting the decision. The Chinese guy should never had made the final in the first place, that was a disgrace. Egan was certainly a more worthy Gold medal winner however the final itself was a very close fight.

    Egan did win the final but IMO even if Egan won the final he would be a poor quality of gold medalist, beterbeiv should have been gold medalist

    Although I agree it was a poor decision no dodgy decision will ever better Roy Jones Jr getting done in Seoul.

    That decision was stunning.

    I don't remember that "awful decision" at all.
    I do remember Egan losing fair and square...and I'm irish. No robbery there I'm afraid, just a deserved win for the Mongolian lad.

    everyone who watched it said egan deserved to win, it wasn't a terrible robbery but a robbery none the less, espn commentary said so and teddy atlas

    the boy was chinese also

    Egan was robbed for sure. I remember being outraged at the time and I wasn't alone in feeling that way.
