How come Kenny is the only fighter that can use the point of the elbow to strike his opponent in the UFC? I thought it was illegal to use the point of the elbow and down strike? Why do they let him get away with this move?

I guess refs overlook that because i saw it quite few times but most famously lutter vs silva because lutter tapped from that.
But the rule states "10. Striking downward using the point of the elbow." Not just limiting it to "while standing" or "on top".
I know what you're saying, I've asked myself this question plenty of times. But from what I've seen you are able to do it while on bottom.
Yes I know I don't like elbows much anyway, they mostly just cut and potentially could end a fight for cuts, which for the most part sucks I like subs and KO's not cut stoppages. More to my point is the kind of elbow strikes he uses are illegal in the UFC and nobody says anything to him about it.
Florian's elbows annoy me, too. Even if they are legal (which is in doubt), it's apparent he's only trying to cut people. I guess you've got to do what you've got to do, but a fight stopped on a cut from an elbow like that seems cheap.
I doubt it though. I think Huerta probably loses on his feet, in the clinch, and on the ground. He needs another Guida like miracle to beat Florian.
Iv seen Silva use the same striking method in a few of his fights. He KO`ed a guy in cage rage with an elbow strike.
The rule has been explained by John McCarthy and a few others to mean no striking from from a 12-6 motion, from floor to ceiling, this seems really arbitrary, because people try to use it in the wrong context, it wasn't really ment to apply to ground and pound elbows at all. It was inteded to stop tall guys from dropping standing elbows to the top of a smaller guys head while standing, damaging the spine. It was basically written after Paul Varlens did this to Cal Worsham at UFC 6. There was a UFC sometime in the SEG years when the state it was in technically banned anything with the point of the elbows, so the commentators just kept calling any elbow a "forearm" which was kind of funny.
