I’ve heard this comment before. Can you name the fight he landed a hundred punches in the 15th round and even if he does. What relevance is that. First I don’t think Rocky makes it to the 15th. Second is even if he does. He can throw 300 punches. Nobody ever knocked Norton out with one punch. So forget the Walcott comparison. Except for an inexperienced early career 7th round loss once Norton warms up you can forget the passes his prime Ezzard comparison. We’re talking about a for the time a big strong powerful heavyweight. Not cruiserweight or big lumbering giant.

    Just some random thoughts.

Was Norton NOT arguably green when he was KO’d by Garcia?

    I believe he was.

Was Norton NOT old and past prime when he was KO’d by Shavers and Cooney?

    I believe he was.

Ken was about 35.5 yo and closing in on 38 yo for those fights respectively.

Respectively, that’s 3.5 and near 6 years older than Marciano was as at his last fight - when Rocky was more or less exactly 32 years - and he was dumped hard by a fighter who was a LH for the better part of his career. And, that fight overall was an extremely tough battle for Marciano.

In his “prime”, Norton was only ever KO’d by Foreman, an elite puncher.

The same Foreman who had dusted off Frazier in just 2 rounds prior to and who, when only very young, scored the most conclusive stoppage of the iron chinned George Chuvalo.

There’s a reasonable number of folk who believe that same 73-74 Foreman would’ve sent Marciano on his way and out in similar, short order.

Finally, as a collective, were Foreman, Shavers and Cooney NOT harder punchers than Rocky?

I believe they were and by a fair margin.

The fight is the first Charles fight, and I counted 94, give or take.

The relevance is STAMINA and WORK RATE. Which would help him land the punch.

He wouldn't have to land one punch...he threw an awful lot of them. This is the point of what we are saying.

As for no cruiser knocking Norton out, Ernie Shavers could boil down to cruiser.

As for Norton knocking Marciano out, there is no evidence that this could happen.

Why wouldn't he fold up? He folded up, the second Shavers and Cooney nailed him with a hard one, and any semblance of a game plan went out the window. I don't think he ever truly got over the Foreman KO. Prior to that, when nailed with a hard shot, he remained composed. It's almost like every time a puncher nailed him good, he got flashbacks to Foreman sparking him.

To be fair, he was only knocked out in his prime by Foreman. Zero shame in that.

Shavers could go down to cruiser. Then Marciano could go down to Light-Heavyweight. Look at Norton Quarry. Not saying he would knock out Marciano but he’d sure bust him up.

Fold up against Marciano? Why would he fold up against a fighter who he could quite comfortably keep on the outside. Cooney and Foreman had the height and reach to match Norton. Shavers had the reach. Marciano didn’t. Norton wouldn’t have to worry about getting tagged unless he stood still right in front of Rocky. And why the hell would he do that?

the thing with Marciano too, any one of those 100 punches in round 15 had just as much power as the ones in round 1, unless Norton actually kills Marciano he is gonna keep on pressing

I like Marciano in this one but I wouldn't write Norton off.

If He boxed him Norton had a hell of shot with his huge reach advantage, strength, speed and his own two handed power .. Rocky would have to get inside before he is busted up ... it's a very interesting fight .. keep in mind there huge size and reach differences ... this is not Foreman or Shavers w 80" reaches here ...
