Tua was much bigger, much quicker and a much better boxer. Oh, and he hit much harder.

Tua was 245 pounds vs Lewis..... which is 60 pounds heavier than Marciano.

He was also more durable than Marciano, had more power, and was much more explosive.

Also didn't Tua lose 12-0 ? So how does that help you make a case for Marciano ? I'm actually confused.

As I said if you think a Cruiserweight with a 67 inch reach beats Super Heavyweights your living in a fantasy world.

Because Tyson was 218 pound physical specimen, who was one of the most explosive, athletic, quickest, Heavyweights in history.

Does Marciano meet any of those criteria's ? No.

Punching bags won't help you vs fighters who are more skillful, bigger, more powerful, with ridiculous advantages in size.

Marciano was fighting former Light Heavyweights not 240 pound Super Heavyweight beasts.

Norton weighed in at 205 when he fought and defeated Ali. His highest weight was 225 (not quite superheavyweight) and he got blasted out in one round each time he weighed that much.

If we're pitting those slow, immoble versions of Norton against Marciano, I'm taking Rocky every time.

If Marciano was bigger than Norton I think he still loses, and I don't think Norton was unbeatable or anything close to it. On video, RM is one of the least impressive fighters I've seen. If there are intangibles that can not be seen on video that would make Marciano one of the best ever, then what is the point of watching video? The guy looks slow, awkward, clumsy, etc. I've never heard a coach/trainer tell a fighter to do something like RM. I suppose he was the best of his era, if everything was on the level, makes me think that WW2 took a heavy toll on boxing talent.

I'm amazed when I read these threads and people rate RM so high. The video from the Mayweather Gym when fighters are asked who would win between Andre Ward and RM is the most accurate assessment of RM I have seen. The fighters are amused to be asked a question in which the answer is so obvious, and all but one pick AW.

Wow really? That changes everything! Marciano goes through the division like a hot knife through butter in that case!
His stamina is rated just right. Among the best I've ever seen.

His power's a little overrated if anything. He wasn't a one shot KO artist ala Liston and Foreman. He was a grinder that had to wear his opponents down.

Thing is, he beat guys who look a lot better than him on film.

I don't know to what extent you agree with the consensus about the boxing skills of Archie Moore, Jersey Joe Walcott, and Ezzard Charles. Since you're pretty iconoclastic (in a good way), maybe you don't think much of these guys, either. But a lot of people here do. So yes, I would say that film can be somewhat misleading. Or at least, we have him on film beating skilled boxers. Even if they were older, they were still more than good enough to beat a skill-less, un-athletic little toughman competitor. Ergo, Rocky wasn't one.

Perhaps I'll speak your language a little more by pointing out that we aren't matching Marciano against Andre Ward here. We're matching him against a guy from the tail end of the age of traditional training. (Though Norton was a Boomer heavyweight, and we both share doubts about how truthful his claims about avoiding modern training were. So who knows...)

I wonder whether that's less a problem with his raw power than the fact that he was a small, not particularly fast guy who hacked his opponents down. There may have been other factors involved in him not one-punching people like Tyson.

His original quote was that the only fighter that could beat Marciano was Ali.

I made a point of mentioning "Super Heavyweights" like Lennox Lewis. That its ludicrous to think that a Cruiserweight like Marciano with 67 inch reach could beat someone like Lewis.

I wasn't specifically on about Norton regarding the above, I haven't actually spoke about Norton in this topic. I just thought the quote about Marciano beating any Heavyweight in history apart from Ali is a bit silly in all honesty. Given Marciano's severe limitations regarding his height, reach, weight.

U really know far less about boxing than u think u do. It’s sad that u can’t breakdown film but seem to project as if u can. If u can’t see the defense, tactics, stamina, counter punching, swarming style that made him great than shame on u. Luckily most experts aren’t so willfully blind
When Mayweather learns to read and his posy w a combined 50 iq learn as well we can take their opinions seriously.
