Shawn: "Ok dad, you're absolutely right, I'm not thinking straight, I've just been under a lot of pressure, losing my livelihood tonight and all, and those weird texts I saw between you and Julia, but I agree, I deserve 2.5%, but can we just tell Julia I'm getting 10%? Fakeys, just so that she can give it up tonight if you know what I mean daddy? Rawr rawr ;-)

 

You win. I don't have the heart to post about Shawn getting cucked by his own father.

 

Porter was pissed off he was knocked down the second time. I dont know if he'd have been stopped but I'd say likely.

In all seriousness I hope Shawn grows a pair and sends his dad packing and had a good 2 or 3 more fights before calling it. He deserves to keep his money. His father never believed in him.

 

Looked to be just a knock down. Porter was coherent right away, never appeared rattled during that knock down, but appeared frustrated. Maybe Kenny thought that in light of the knock downs, and his sons lack of power to KO Crawford, that the fight wasn’t worth continuing. But he couldn’t have called it for safety reasons because his son was fine. Strange stoppage on face value.

 

One could maybe forgive their pops for stopping a fight too early on the basis of not wanting to see their kid get a severe beating, but then Kenny throws Porter under the bus in the post fight interview as well?

Man that guys is a grade A douchebag - keep that dirty laundry in-house for ****s sake!

 

He didn't want his son to get beat-up by a masochistic, intelligent, skilled, and hard punching fighter. There is something to be said for this.

 

Just got up and watched the fight and I'm sat here confused why the fight was stopped. Porter didn't look badly hurt at all to me.

 

He is a weirdo. Not rare for very religious people.

 

My wife divorced me over premature stoppages, in a way. But, respect, took 24 years of non-punishment before she gave up.

 

I think his dad just looked at the options with a practical mind.

Porter had already decided he was retiring prior to the fight.

The fight was very close but Porter had been dropped twice.

His dad probably thought “what’s the point?”. Porter likely would have gone the distance in my opinion, but there was no way he was getting a decision, especially with the two knockdowns.

Why risk his sons health when he’s hanging them up after the fight anyway. Definitely a premature stoppage, and I doubt his dad would have called it like that if it were a fight earlier in Shawns career.

It’s amazing to think that Porter was fighting Kel Brook around 8 years ago, around the time Crawford was fighting Ricky Burns. He’s had a great career and it’s hard not to feel bad for him always falling short in his biggest fights. He was a credit to the sport.
