I honestly think the stoppage was pretty justified. Premature, sure, but still justified. Akui was dead tired, he had practically nothing left in the tank, he was clearly badly hurt and Teraji was racing to the finish letting his hands go at will. If the ref let Akui continue, Akui could've been seriously injured with the state he was in. Terrific fight though, clear FOTY candidate.

I think the stoppage was good Akui is a father of 3 childrens he take too much damage at the end and if the referee don't stop the fight it was very dangerous

We had the official scorecards 106-103 for Kenshiro, 105-104 for Seigo Yuri Akui and 105-104 for Seigo Yuri Akui.

So it was a SD win for Seigo Yuri Akui before the stoppage.

Personally my scorecard was 118-111 ~ for Seigo Yuri Akui by UD, I give only 3 rounds to Kenshiro Teraji.

I scored with people on Discord last night. I had it 6-5 Teraji but I gave him all the tossup rounds. BoxRec has it 7-4 Akui.

Terrible stoppage. Akui is a hell of a fighter, for the first 6 I thought maybe he was gonna be the guy to beat Bam

All three were highly competitive, with Kenshiro landing roughly the same, but I put more value on how clean and precise the work from Akui was. Still, even if you give him those three, Akui should have been well ahead at the time of the stoppage.

Forget the actual score for a moment, my personal stance is that had Akui been able to hear the final bell he should've won even if he's gone down, so it would've been an unfair stoppage had he had a solid chance to last until the end. However, after the post fight and the more I rewatch it the more I'm starting to be quite confident that there is a high chance Akui wouldn't have lasted until the final bell. It is reminding me of Takei vs Moloney final round where Takei was totally gassed and Moloney probably won with 30 more seconds left, but Akui still had 90 seconds left to survive which is quite long of a time in terms of boxing where a lot of extra damage can happen.

Considering that this match leading up to R12 it was already a slugfest even without a KD Akui was definitely more damaged than people thought watching live. Given the situation, although Akui was able to flee the first rush, the right hand from Teraji about 30 seconds in the round definitely wobbled him hard that Akui was near defenseless on the 2nd rush where his hands weren't up, he wasn't even trying to attack back, and didn't even have the energy to clinch nor run. Watching it slo-mo he was getting hit flush in the head/face continuously with his head snapping back right before the stoppage

If it was like less than 30 seconds left the ref should've have let it play out and there would've been a much bigger outrage. Still 90 seconds left of which one side was just completely getting pummeled in the head for almost a minute leading up to it and not even properly defending or attacking back gives me mixed feelings. Maybe let Akui fall to the ground first (no one denies that he was about to go down atleast once very soon at that point)? But would that 8 seconds of rest given Akui back the energy to defend and fight back? What if Teraji immediately charges in (which he would've for sure) and pummels him again for the next 30+ seconds after the KD does the ref wait, or stop it then with still another 30 seconds left?

Also, people might've forgotten but after the Anaguchi death just over a year ago JBC has gotten much more faster at stopping fights especially between two Japanese boxers, which I think effected the ref too.

If it makes people feel a bit better, Akui just did his day after post-fight presser (dang his face looks painful...) and atleast he himself seems to have been accepting of the stoppage as he said something in the likes of "I tried and gave everything but unfortunately just couldn't last until the end. Teraji is indeed the strongest of this division and I have no regrets. The stoppage was understandable and I have nothing to say about it. I am just glad I was able to return home safe" Also his wife's words were "I am just happy that you were able to leave the ring with your own legs" which makes you think that he is a husband and a father of two daughters (with a third due in June) before being a boxer.

Also, while watching the other post-presser the lack of visible damage on Kenshiro's face is so limited that it is quite scary compared to Akui.

It looked like Akui was doing great and Kenshiro was struggling but the end result on their faces are extremely different.

Even if their is no damage in the face of Kenshiro apparently you can trust me that in round 3 and round 7 he was hurt by the right hand in counter of Akui because he backed down.

Didn't watch and score the full fight yet,but looking at the stoppage highlights,I do think the stoppage was quite justified.

Akui definitely just needs 1 min and a half more to become the unified champion, but he was hurt real bad, wobbly defenseless and at that point he looks like a living punching bag.

It's understandable why people don't want the fight stopped, but Akui could be in legit health problems if the ref didn't stop it, Teraji is terrific when it comes to finishing and who knows Akui would actually hang in the ropes, taking those nasty beatdown instead of falling after that wobble?
