Actually,,,,, March 18, 1969 'Slim' Kent Green goes against Miami Beach 'club-fighter, Willie McIntyre 17-8-4 (5 KO's) in an 8-Round Light-Heavyweight bout. It is a Tuesday Night Fight, at the Miami Beach Auditorium. A 'Semi' Main Event 8-Rounder, that will be televised on local TV. 'Slim' Kent, scores early with sharp jabs, and holds off the 'durable' McIntyre (173 lbs.) with constant punching. Kent Green wins the first '3' Rounds. By Round 4, the 29 year-old 'Chicagoan' Light-Heavyweight (176 lbs.) starts to fade, as the pace quickens. 'Willie Mac' starts to score a little more in Round 5, as 'Slim' Kent is holding much more, and not firing his quick punches. In Rounds 6 and 7, the local Miami Beach 'club-fighter' takes control with short body punches, as Green holds on. In Round 8, Green somehow manages to rally, and shakes 'Wiilie Mac' with several hard right hands. But McIntyre holds on, and puts on his own late flurry to the thrill of the 3500+ Auditorium fans. Kent Green wins a close Unanimous Decision, and improves to 21-1-0. Scorecards; {77-75 / 77-76 / 78-76} The Miami Beach Auditorium fans 'boo' the Decision.

Looking at the 1957 Chicago Golden Gloves Light-Heavyweight 'Entrants List' Young Cassius Clay,,,,,,,,never had a chance.
I believe the 'comma' enhances the statement, just a bit. The 'comma', is a very nice,,,,,,,, 'mark of punctuation' Of course, the 'comma' is no 'exlcamation point' !!!!!!!!!! For some Miami Beach information.. Muhammad Ali and Kent Green did spar several times in Miami Beach in late-1968 and early-1969. Just local Gym work-outs, and a couple of quiet non-sanctioned 5-Round 'smoker bouts'.
I'm guessing 'boxing history geeks' would care. .... 'boxing buffs' specializing in the career of Muhammad Ali would be especially interested. :good It seems that some supposed admirers of Ali actually react a bit oddly on these forums though, and regard any mention of Ali having lost to an unknown fighter as some sort of attack on his legacy, rather than part of the great journey that was his boxing career amateur and pro. :good
I remember Senor Pepe' taking a 'leave of absence', because of the subject of Ali. I would hope he does not go down that route again, as he brings an awful lot to this forum.
This Kent Green dude reminds me of...... Mitch Green ranting about Tyson You sure these ma****as aint related?
For the 1957 Chicago Boxing Golden Gloves Tournament,,, The Young Cassius Clay, moved up the the 175 lb. Light-Heavyweight Division. In 1956, at age 14 1/2, he was competing in the 160 lb. Middleweight Division, and primarily Regional Novice Tournaments. Obviously growing, he had to move up to the next weight division. There were no 165 lb. Middleweight Golden Gloves Division (that weight level was not instituted until 1967). Not that he would have had an 'easy time' in the 160 lb. Middleweight Division at the 1957 Golden Gloves. There waiting for him, would have been; * Leotis Martin (Toldeo, Ohio) * Edward Cook (Montgomery, Alabama) Both, Leotis Martin (17 years, 11 months) and Edward Cook (17 years, 9 months) were National Regional Middleweight Champions.
It is interesting to see how these sort of losses helped shape a young Cassius Clay into the boxer he would later become. And with Ali there is just so much more to work with; no one is going to bring up one of those random dudes who whipped Marciano, or the guy who dropped Joe Louis like 30 times. Even though Ali is probably the most written about boxer of all time there is still much to learn and I thank Senor for helping us.
