That's right Cintron is making his 154lbs debut against WBC Interim Champ Sergio Martinez on February 14th for the HBO triple header. He said he could still make welterweight and that he would take the best opportunities at either weightclass. He was first schedueled to fight Clottey on the Cotto undefcard, but immidietly filled in when Santos reported he would be able not to make weight for his clash versus Martinez on the same date. Kermit chose this fight over the Clottey match because it was on HBO and the money's better. It's been a while since I don't talk much about Cintron, but I've always been a fan of his and actually wanted to see him test the waters at 154 for a while now after he lost to Margo. I was surprised not to read anything in the forum, so I felt maybe I should bring it up. What do you think?
He might be able to be competitive, he has got good punching power and this division is not as stacked as welterweight, be interesting to see, depends in what his punching power is like at lmw imo.
it could be a decent move for the future, but i was looking forward to him fighting clottey. he could however cause problems at 154, and in 2 years might decide to move back down to welterweight after clearing out the division.
I like Kermit, too, and hope this move works out well for him. If he carries his power up to 154 and fights smart, he'll be trouble for anyone there.
This is a tough fight for Kermit, I'm hoping he really benefits from the added weight and looks stronger than he did at welter. I have my doubts because he's never complained about the weight and he's even looking forward to fightin there again, but something just tells me he might just fare off better at this weight. He's still going to be a hard punchers, and if he feels more comfortable and with better stamina at jrmw than we might just see a more complete Cintron.
For a man to get in the ring with Antonio Margarito and get whipped the way he did the first time, that shows heart, for him to repeated that further proves the kid has heart, I mean he didnt have to rematch Margarito he did anways knowing what was in store for him.
He didnt know he was gonna get whipped again. He thought he could win if fought a little better, but he failed. He has heart for facing AM 2x, but he didnt show heart in the ring with all that crying. Baby Kermit!
He's had trouble pulling the trigger against guys with high workrates in the past, I see no reason why it would be any different fighting Martinez, unless Cintron can manage to buzz Martinez early and thus lower his output.
