You need more than a rudimentary sprawl to have good takedown defense. Not all takedowns can be stopped via a sprawl.

James Toney was flat footed in that fight Kermit fights at WW he's more active in his feet and it would be easier to defend a Takedown

Do you have a source for this?

So are you saying the James Toney was a 200lb wrestler in college (did he really go to college) then became a professional boxer at middleweight (160lb)? Really!?!?

College or HS one or the other. I read it some time ago. He said he wrestled and played football at 200lbs. He was a fat 200lbs mind you.

Ok cool, so you don't think Cintron's wrestling would be a solid enough base for him to convert at this stage? I'm not sure what level he reached in wrestling or how long ago that was.

Do you think he would be unable to make the transition into MMA or do you just think (as I do that) that BJ Penn is the wrong guy to dabble in MMA with!!

None what so ever. Cintron is a pro boxer. He's conditioned to box. Learning "MMA" isnt just a simple matter of having a base in wrestling and then adding some striking. It takes years to learn same as it takes years to become a competent pro boxer. Cintron would get tooled.

Exactly. No matter how good Cintron was as a wrestler everything has to change for mma. If you go in there with the same style as a boxer you will get single legged easily. You just don't stop being a boxer in stand up to being an MMA fighter. To many things to consider.

I know Cintron has some sort of wrestling background. He's been a professional boxer though for ages and BJ Penn has been a world class MMA fighter for ages. I wouldn't pick BJ to beat Cintron in a boxing match (probably) and theres no way Kermit the frog beats Baby J in an MMA match. He probably gets submitted walking to the cage as a matter of fact.

I mean Cintron hits very hard and has a good wrestling back ground but Penn is a legend in MMA

like I always say good cage guy beats good boxer in the cage

and good boxer beats good cage guy in the ring

though I think boxers stand a slightly better chance at winning in the other sport because one punch in MMA can change a lot

and most MMA guys would not be able to win in a booxing match cause many are weak in that department plun no kicks no elbows no take downs

LOL....number one...toney never wrestled...was a good high school quaterback....was offered a scholorship to play at a pretty good college...but never did...went right into pro boxing instead.

I have heard the whole "toney wrested in college" and i also heard the whole toney wrested in high school thing on other mma sites...it never happened..some dumb thing started by some troll that then spread due to people not researching or even using common sense.

Bj better take this fight to the ground asap. I'm not sure how good cintron wrestling is but i heard he used to wrestle. Anyways i haven't seen enough of cintron wrestling to pick him in an mma fight vs bj penn. So bj wins via rear naked choke.

A more interesting matchup is Cain Velazquez vs. Chris Arreola.
