It seems that HBO Sports senior vice president Kerry Davis is leaving HBO. He's been the primary negotiator and one of the top decision makers for boxing at HBO for 14 years. This is a major move that could be really good or really bad for boxing on HBO.
i don't think he's had any influence as far as sports/boxing programming since greenburg was forced out. i think hershman is relying more on hauser's input.
How so? HBO has been putting on quality fights and they're still pulling in better ratings than Showtime. HBO may have lost Mayweather to Showtime, but Mayweather just caused Showtime/CBS to lose a **** load of money. They'll recover on the Canelo fight, no doubt, but after that fight, they could be in the same situation as they were with Guerrero (a hard sell to the general public because people don't know who he is). As of now, I'd say HBO has had a stronger first half of 2013, but looking at the upcoming fight schedule, Showtime currently appears to have a better run of fights scheduled for the second half of the year.
hbo hired hauser? if i want someone to write me great sentences about boxing...he's my guy...but running a network and making fights? not so much. hbo has really ****ed itself listening to all the wrong ppl. journalists.
in all honesty...i think it was bull**** they got rid of greenburg. it was the result of him letting showtime get pac/mosley. that turned out to be a **** fight. he made the right call. but the media/websites blasted him for that. as for greenburg and davis' relationship with al haymon...did al haymons guys not provide some great fights on hbo? anyone remember berto/ortiz, martinez/williams 1&2, mayweathers/cotto and plenty of others. it was bob arums shills that wrote articles against haymon/davis/greenburg that led to all of this. looks to me like they screwed themselves for listening to the shills.
i found it funny that after hauser wrote those articles he ended up working directly for top rank....and now he's a consultant/advisor for hbo.
