Kessler @ 175? I doubt his ability to fight there.

After weighing in at only 169? Certainly he wouldn't cut any weight if he could weigh in at 175. . . I knew he wasn't a "big" 168 pounder, but I thought he was definitely walking around about 15 pounds bigger like most guys do. . . Thought he would be able to keep (or add) 3-5 pounds of lean muscle without it having much affect on his speed due to his frame.

But ****, he probably could have been making 160. . Or at least for some of his career. . .

But at first I was favoring him over the bruisers at 175 like Cloud, and Shumenov. . Two belt-holders I thought Kessler would slice up with his more accurate punching, and better fundamentals, etc. . . But these guys are big 175 pounders, probably rehydrating to around 190. . .

He might be able to better hang with Pascal, though. . . As I saw that as about a 55/45 fight for Pascal. . Doesn't really change much Kessler's weight notwithstanding. . .

Dawson is just all wrong for Kessler regardless of size as well. . .

Have a lucrative rematch with Froch (after Bute beats him), and then call it a day. . .

Thoughts? Anybody else surprised at him weighing in so low? And now having doubts about him at 175?

Come on! Boxing is bigger than PEDS, Floyd, and Pacquiao! 175 is a HOT, DEEP division right now. . Especially with Kessler moving up. . ANd possibly Ward, and Froch, Bute coming up in the next year or two. . .

I mean, I remember him saying his power would be better at 175, but I don't see how if he wasn't having to cut any weight to make 168 anyway?

Allan Green is a bump (former hypejob but now demoted), Kessler could come in at 162 and still whupp Green's pathetic ass.

Agree on both statements. Dawson way too strong physical. Kessler will loose against Bute. Kessler peaked in 2007 with the fights against Andrade and Calzaghe. He's had to many injuries since. Hands, eyes, back and so forth. :bbb

Kessler much like Froch is solid 168lbs, they neither drain to make weight or could really make 160lbs. Simply put they are two fighters that are always around their target weight. Kessler would have to bulk up considerably to even consider 175lbs for the future.

what did Green come in at? he said it was a catchweight fight at 172.

and Kessler will handle Green easily tonight. too big a gulf in class.

Thanks flam1ngo, so Green was 172. They should have just fought at SMW.

Agreed. I don't know what he is even doing up there if he can't even get to 172 pounds. He's just one pound over the smw limit. In the past, he always said he was a perfect smw physically and I guess that was true. Who is there for him to fight at lhw? I can't see any fight up there that makes more sense than the match-ups at his more natural weight. Sure he's more skilled than most of the other contenders and champs at 175, but that's true at 168 as well where he won't be at a physcial disadvantage. Maybe Sauerland has a plan for his future but I just can't see it atm.

For what it's worth, he says he's moved up to find new opponents. But I'm wondering who? The belts are owned by Cloud, Dawson, Shumenov and Cleverly. Those guys are likely to be too big for Kessler - why risk it when he could have fought Stieglitz who imo would have been a much easier task?

1: Sauerland wants Stieglitz for Abraham (bigger money in that fight, and possibly the only belt, Abraham MAYBE could get at SMW)

2: Allan Green (Brought in on short notice) wouldn't fight at SMW, so they agreed on a catchweight of 172, but Sauerland still promoted the fight as a pure LHW fight to add the bogus WBC belt to the mix, and to make the fight seem more dangerous for Kessler than it is...

If the money is not at LHW, Sauerland will never let Kessler stay there.
Kessler has no weight problem, and could make 160, if he wanted to...

It's all about the (Sauerland) money...

    175 is 169 to 175 guys....

And lets not forget it's his first fight so naturally he will grow into the weight rather than just slap on the water.

also he will have much more energy now too (presumably).

Don't sleep on Kess folks. Kess vs Pascal / Cloud would be magic!!! Dawson would have too much movement for him however given his range.
