This is a spinoff thread I made a thread several months back "Carl Froch against the Light Heavies" http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=271732 Obviously, Kessler beat Froch but I think he might have a harder time in LHW waters than Froch might. Out of the LHWs listed in the poll, which fighters would you favor Kessler to beat?
He'd lose to Dawson and Hopkins. 50/50 vs Pascal. Pascal would take the early rounds comprehensively but his stamina might not last out. He beats Cloud, Cleverly, Shumenov and Campillo.
Campillo, Cleverly, Shumenov Tough to say though. Layoff + no body of work to look at = wouldn't be stunned if Campillo's style spelled nightmare for him. Also, I believe Froch will have a tougher translation to 175 than would Kessler.
Yeah but Wards more elusive and tricky to hit then Pascal. Kessler looked ok down the stretch vs Froch and Calzaghe. .
I bet the two people who voted Campillo have never seen Campillo fight. He would put serious hands on Kessler.
Campillo was horribly robbed in the second Shumenov fight in Vegas. Kessler definitely won't be beating Campillo at LHW. I wouldn't be confident that Mikkel endures the limited Shumenov's firepower after the punishment he took in the Ward & Froch fights either. Cloud would be FAR too durable for Kessler now. Someone is going to have to beat Cloud and completely turn down his confidence before Kessler should ever think of signing for that fight. If he survived Cloud he would never be the same after that fight. Almost no chance for MK. Pascal is one dimensional and somewhat limited so he'd have a decent chance here - wouldn't be easy though. BHOP is seventy years old so it wouldn't be a complete blow out but Bernard is the superior fighter at any age so Kessler wouldn't have the answers. Dawson wouldn't find Kessler to be all that much trouble. He has already faced fighters that bring everything Mikkell could. The often unmotivated CD may just do enough to win or he could hurt Kessler badly and win easily. I'll defer on the great Erdei & young Cleverly ... wgaf
Dawson (if motivated) would be a tall order for Kessler.. Hopkins would also be favorite against him.. Kessler would have good chances at the rest though..
Hopkins was offered a staggering 4M USD to fight Kessler in 2008. Hopkins flat out turned him down, so he probably didn't fancy his chances. This means that neither would I. The only one I see winning is a top motivated Dawson.
Or they might not trust his chances in spite of his ability. After all, he did lose to Uzelkhov and Karo Murat.
