All this bitching that one is scared off the other, it's not true both fighters are ready, but the offers that both camps were offering are unrealistic, for instance Calzaghe wasn't even paid $2 million to fight Jeff Lacy who was like America's up and coming golden boy, so where does the $5 million each or there abouts come from? Warren and Palle want HBO to pay $5 million for the rights of this fight, but HBO say this is way to expensive, while as us boxing fans would say course it's worth it , it's probably the biggest fight in Boxing at the moment. But this fight involves two Europeans who in all are very unexposed to the regualr HBO watcher in the United States. It's such a shame that this is the case, becasue like i say this is the only fight if any i wish to be made this year, it cant be done at a later date, Calzaghe is getting to old. What do you guys think? I know that these two fighters wont fight for much less when they can go get paid the same if not a bit more against the likes of Manfredo. This will be a let down if this fight doesn't happen. Surely HBO should have the balls to pay and imo this fight will be class and this will open the gates for one of these guys if not both to fight biger names in the States which will then be a great investment from HBO. Considering they paid around the same amount $5 million for the Mayweather Mitchell mis match surely this is worth it?
They said they'd pay in the $3 - $3.5 million range all along. It's not going to get higher just because they ***** and moan about it. If they were unrealistic in their estimates, that's their problem. HBO has a budget, and it's near the end of the year; if they want more than what's budgeted for that slot, then they'll need to wait until next year.
Nah, its not that big of a fight in the States. To the hardcore fans it appears to be an exciting fight, but its far from the biggest fight in boxing outside of Western Europe. And Actaully I blame both fighters that this fight is haveing trouble getting off the ground. HBO has offered Dates that have been rejected, venues that have been rejected. I say to HBO fuk'm, let those birds figure it out then tell them Ill pay you 1mill each to show delayed broadcast in the states. Because it now seems that they will try and make HBO the cape-goat for a fight that will likely be a NO-go
It will happen, that's why you have'nt heard anything about them fighting someone else, it's all a negotiation tactic. In the end the fight will be announced and that will be that. have faith.
Fights in Europe dont generate BIG money, they have huge fan turnouts, but not big money turnouts. My guess is they are looking to HBO for a vast portion of each fighters payday. Problem is HBO itself doesnt pay much for ANY fight, the monies come from the Venues and sponsers, in all honesty HBO only puts up modest amounts to broadcast fights. Im not sure that the two groups promoting this thing truely understand that, because of the limited dealings.
Why do European promoters do such a poor job sellng their fights in America.. With saturday afternoon that used to be big for boxing fans but now have been abandonned by networks, i always felt that fights taking place in Europe could easily fill the spot. That way those lesser known fighters could get a name there and then fans could make pressure that these guys have the chance to fight the more famous American fightrs.
