Lacy-- won the vacant title and defended against no-hopers like Sheika, Pemberton, shot Robin Reid, and Rubin Williams.
Kessler-- beat subpar or past it fighters in Manny Siaca, Eric Lucas, Markus Beyer (worst super middle champ of recent times), but did take on serious hitter Librado Andrade and athletic/current champ Anthony Mundine

Lacy-- failed to win a single round
Kessler-- Did very well in certain rounds

Lacy-- Everyone says is finished. Vitali Typsko fight proves he has problems.
Kessler-- Right now everyone assumes he'll come back and win a title and that he could beat Calzaghe in a rematch. His confidence still seems high

Lacy-- Was pushed into this fight after winning the title by Gary Shaw
Kessler-- Wanted this fight to prove he was the best even though he could have ducked Calzaghe (and vice versa)

This isn't about the US vs Europe. Kessler is just a superior fighter and he will win more titles and have a great career. Old man Calzaghe needs a couple money fights and should retire as an ATG.

A Lacy vs. Kessler nr.1 contender match would be pretty interesting.

Will never happen. Lacy will be avoiding the big guns for the next couple years until a journeyman beats him and he must retire ala David Reid. That's what happens when you're moved too fast.

Joe is very intelligent and seems to break fighters down mentally. Kessler looked like a ****ing grenade went off next to him after the 5th rd. I don't quite get it but he did it to Lacy and did it to Mikkel though Mikkel did have his moments. Even Kessler said Joe is like a Magician. I think Joe is involved in witchcraft:lol:

Jeff Lacy can't learn anything. Even Omar Sheika was having success against him. Let's not forget the early ref stoppage against Syd Vanderpool and the help from the ref he got against Robin Reid.

Bute, Mundine and even Carl Froch are gonna tap that ass when he becomes recycled to hungry up and comers.

There really is no comparison, Kessler is a champion, Lacy's not.

Still learning? Those 12 three minute "lessons" he got from Joe Calzaghe should have taught him all he needed to know.

Excuse me Lacey was embarrassed Reid was destroyed .. Lacey had a huge chink in his armor called defense and adequate foot work, something he can over come , Reid had the fight beat out him .. totally different The word is still out on Lacey we won't know anything till his next fight.

I tend to think you're right on this. Lacy should have taken a few more fights against solid contenders before taking on Calzaghe. Of course, back then, many in the boxing community didn't have the opinion of Joe they have now - those of us who picked him to beat Lacy were very much in the minority.

The comparison is that Kessler was competitive and dangerous whilst Lacy was absolutely dominated from first second to last

Remember that 35 out of 36 American boxing writers picked Lacy to beat Calzaghe. That doesn't mean they overrated Lacy, but underrated Calzaghe. I still think Lacy can have success now his shoulder has healed. People forget just how good Lacy look pre Calzaghe

Looked good againts who? Vanderpool? Pembertton? Williams?

I mean those are not really top level fighters... Saying Lacy looked good againts them doesn't make him a fighter at the level of Kessler or at any other
    real world class oponent.

    Comparison of their only defeat,eh!

Most fight fans who watched Tsypko vs Lacy probably quite agree with me inasmuch as Lacy shouldnt have been declared the winner of their bout.
Tsypko lost a very controversial desicion to Lacy, and was schooled by Joe.
Kessler wasnt schooled by Joe,and neither has he won a highly controversial point decision against an game opponent.

We'll soon get a chance to see how Lacy looks against Manfredo on the PBF v Hatton undercard.
