I didn't know saying "end of" would cause such an outburst of feeling from you. It was merely my way of conveying that I don't think there is anywhere for this debate to go. I mean, you can keep saying what you think for hours, I can do likewise, but after a few pages of the same dull interactions it becomes pretty futile and tedious. You have misinterpreted what PP said for whatever reason, and he is happy to along with it now because he recognizes that his initial statement was crap. Yawn.
Read his initial post and stop superimposing your own meaning onto it - that is exactly what he said and meant!!
Ok man, you know what he meant better than he did!! You took his statement literally in an attempt to embarrass the guy and it's backfired. But this has gotten off of boxing now so I'll say no more!!!
I didn't take his statement literally, I read a sentence and because I can read the English language and have a brain, I knew what it meant. Read the sentence, it's very clear and straightforward. Because the sentiment PP expressed was so silly, you don't believe he meant what he said - but maybe once you have been around a bit longer and know a bit more about him you will understand that he did mean exactly what he said. You should maybe stop trying to guess at peoples' real intentions because they are not always the same as your own. Don't superimpose your own opinions and simply read the words on the page. :good
I don't think he will either, I don't think he is good enough, but we must accept it is a live possibility because Joe never beat nearly enough good fighters at 168 to build an insurmountable legacy.
This has been a very interesting thread to read with a lot of passionate, abusive posts which are always fun to read .. I think Kessler has everything to prove, he's gotten a lot of props for losing to Calzaghe and it wasnt even close, I had Calzaghe winning by a comfortable 3 or 4 points. Other than that, he's beaten Andrade and an old Beyer, so on that basis i find it staggering that some people talk about him as if hes some kind of stellar fighter. Having said that, I am no Calzaghe fan. I didnt rate him as a boxer, he ran forward throwing a load of punches and missing 99% of them, the judges often scored him on work-rate and aggression alone, the Hopkins fight was a prime example, Joe landed nothing on Hopkins all night but he won just because he came forward. The SMW division is a relatively new division that has always suffered from a lack of talent, its like Cruiser. And its like Cruiser in the fact that fighters only stay there if they dont have the talent to step up to the marquee division, SMW - LHW, Cruiser - Heavy .... In a division that is only 20 odd years old you have to consider how these 168 guys would get on against the very best fighters in history that have operated in and around that weight, the best 160 guys and the best 175 guys. Saying that Calzaghe is the best SMW of all time means nothing, speculating that Kessler could be the best SMW of all time, again means nothing, simply because it is Super Middle Weight, a division with no historical significance. When i consider Calzaghe/Kessler facing Monzon, Hagler, Foster, Charles and Moore its a joke. These 2 guys would stand no chance in my opinion but we live in an era were mediocrity is elevated into being great, and thats because of the state boxing is in, talent is so short on the ground. Regardless of H2H, Roy Jones is the best SMW of all time and would crush anybody else that has operated in this division but he knew that SMW wasnt a 'money' division and he wasnt going to get any credibility dominating a division like this. Calzaghe on the other hand took advantage of a naive British public and dominated a division that the boxing world doesnt care about, Kessler or Froch could follow suit but the real boxing fans will not be fooled ......
Head 2 Head you've got to fancy Calzaghe, but Kessler has plenty of time to build a record at SMW that decimates Calzaghe's. Calzaghe has an old Eubank, an overated Lacy and Kessler himself, and that's about it. The rest of his record is extremely average
