The blueprint is now layed, Kessler cannot fight on the inside. He could hardly fight on the outside tonight either. It took all my gd patience to wait to see this fight tape delayed. Ward was awsome. he didnt even drop a rd, a couple a little close. He just didnt outbox Kessler, he beat him up!
Ward knew that going in. When I mentioned it myself, I was called every name in the book by the Euros.
That showed in the Joe Calzaghe fight too. Kessler cannot fight inside and he has little ability to adjust once his opponent figures out the timing of his patented 1-2's. Kessler needs you at medium range and when he can't get you there, he swings wildly. Did you see some of horribly-missed punches by Kessler in there? He was swinging and missing like Froch! I think it is pretty clear Kessler is a bit one-dimensional.
david you stand along as the man who called this fight the most accurate! You had the TKo and this fight was a beatdown!
It's interesting you say that because in the Calzaghe fight, Joe actually switched to fighting from a distance, and that's when he took control. I remember him eating a nasty uppercut in the early rounds.
2 points on kessler that will be his downfall in future fights are as right cross said he can't fight on the inside..no left hook or body work and 2nd he can't fight going backwards as ward and calzaghe proved when they fought him. a point on ward that I have seen watchinghis fights is he gets hit with uppercuts and kessler only landed one tonight. Ward looked awesome no doubt and thats the wrost kessler I have seen. His last 3 fights he didn't look good either. Kessler doesn't adjust well at all.
I feel that Froch will **** Kesselr up now. Froch is slow with porous defense, but his soutpaw angles and mauling style seems effective against Kessler. Froch CAN fight inside, and quite well. I cant believe how bad Kessler looked. Speed, angles, and southpaws apparently render him ineffective.
Kessler's a much better boxer than Froch. He needs to fight a technical fight and not give in to the mind games (Froch continously saying it will be a war because Mikkel isn't afraid to trade). He needs to box his way to the championship rounds before thinking about going for the finish. One of the problems with Froch is that he's made it obvious he only wants to brawl, and that if his opponent doesn't come to trade shots like Pascal did, then he doesn't really know what to do. JT was taking the decision no problem until he managed to gas and get beaten down a few seconds from the end of the fight.
Calzaghe didnt beat Kessler this impressively. Now we know, rough him up on the inside. calzaghe showed that he be can be hurt to the body. But, rough him up on the inside and throw the uppercut. Kessler cannot fight on the inside.
Kessler isn't eliminated yet. Let's see what he brings in the next two fights. Maybe we're not giving Ward enough credit.
Froch can, taylor is pretty shot at this point. He is the weakest link. If frochs camp has any brains they will rough him up on the inside and bust him up. That will break down kessler. I favor froch in this fight now.
The way the first group stage has played out has made the 2nd so much more compelling than it already was.
You don't think Froch will get timed pretty easily on the way in? He's a bit awkward, but not capable of showing as many looks as Ward did...and his footspeed isn't even in the same league.
