Kessler has wanted Hopkins for 10 years, therefore age is a bad excuse.

One thing not to be forgotten here. I think the WBC wants/needs Taylor. That is why he was going to get a title shot his first fight at that weight. The bigger the fight, the bigger their cut. They were 'miffed' when he took a pass on the first fight. I think I read they even threatened him with a 'now or never' type line. Then they decided his fight with Lacy would be an eliminator. If Taylor ever wants their belt, he may have to fight Froch next. Many of us at the time wondered if Palle's crap with Miranda would hurt Kessler in the states. We don't know this is the case, but.........

Kessler may WANT a big fight in the states, but why should someone put up the money for a guy that is unknown here? If he is no draw here, then what should his cut be? What would Palle be willing to accept? What Kessler deserves and what he can get here is two different things at this point. THAT may be the biggest stumbling block at the moment.

    Let's face it.

Kessler is the man at 168. However, the rest of the 'champs' seem VERY reluctant to get in the ring with him. The will probably try to meet eachother instead and hope that someone will buy into the idea that the winner is then the man... so they don;t have to fight Kessler. In other words, a big circle around Kessler.

  5. WTF? 10 years? You mean when he was fighting six rounders (at 154 lbs) in 1998 against guys like the 35 year old Anthony Ivory (career 32-78)) in Denmark (which he wouldn't leave for another seven years) he was calling out 33-year old middle weight champ Bernard Hopkins?

    Okay. Sorry my bad.

Let's say 6 years then. Does it really make a difference? You get the idea..(or do you?)

  7. So in 2002, the 23/24 year old super middle weight champ began calling out the 37 year old middle weight champ?

Kessler had only fought talent like Thobela, Cummings, & Porras by this time and was still several years from leaving Denmark. But he was calling out for Bernard Hopkins who was 37 and in the weight class below him?

    And you believe this?

OKay, that's a whole lot better.

Let us hear your oppinion about Kelly Pavlik taking on Hopkins. What does that make Pavlik in your eyes? Or Jermain? Lets hear it.

  10. I don't get it. You state Kessler has been calling out Bernard Hopkins for 10 years, then six years, now you ask me about Pavlik & JT? Bi-polar? The statement you should correct is that Kessler has not been calling out Bernard Hopkins (until recently at best). That's my point.

    Re: Pavlik

    He lost to Hop.

    Re: Taylor

He got two decisions in pretty close fights.

Let me connect the dots for you then.

Someone said "How can KEssler want to fight an old guy in Hopkins?"

I then said "Kessler has actually wanted the fight for several years (10, 6, 4 whatever)".

And if wanting to fight Hopkins is bad then what does that say about Jermain? Pavlik? About Dawson for fighting Tarver and Johnson?

Ups.... isn't it funny how these things only work if the ones listening cannot think whatsoever?

    Is Allen still fighting?

  14. I then said "Kessler has actually wanted the fight for several years (10, 6, 4 whatever)".

    whatever = 1

if wanting to fight Hopkins is bad then what does that say about Jermain?

JT's situation was fundamentally different. He was a middleweight fighting the unified champ. There was no way to avoid Hopkins unless Hop retired (same approximate thing for Kessler with regards to Calzaghe at SMW).

if wanting to fight Hopkins is bad then what does that say about Pavlik?

Calzaghe refused to meet Pavlik after his victory over Hop and Pav's over Lockett. Abraham wasn't ready to go so he took the biggest fight he could against Hopkins and moved up in weight to get it. At least he didn't fight Marquez, Zbik, Mundine, Sturm, Gevor, or Duddy.

About Dawson for fighting Tarver and Johnson?

Antonio was the bigger name and a legit contender at LHW. It wasn't completely clear that Tarver was already shot. Some thought he looked revived/rejuvenated in what I thought was a lame, awful performance against perennial near-ordinary Clinton Pedestrian Woods.

Johnson proved what shouldn't have been a surprise; he's still a hell of a fighter with the chin and power to stand in against the younger LHWs (unlike JC and perhaps Hop who is smart enough to state he doesn't want young guys at his age - but made an exception for Pavlik who was moving up and had deficiencies he believed could be exploited). You don't see Hop calling out Dawson, George, or Cloud (even if he believes he could prevail over one of these).

If you think it is wrong for Pavlik and Taylor to have fought Hopkins and for Dawson to have fought Tarver and Johnson why would you feel it is okay for the 29 year old Kessler to fight the 44 year old Hopkins in 2009? Maybe Kessler should call out Roy for a payday. He clearly has near-zero in the tank, too.
