Former 5-time Super Middleweight champion, Mikkel Kessler, just announced, that he continues his career with ambitions of winning a new world title.
Wants a Ward-rematch badly - no warmup fight - but doubts, that he can get Ward out of California. Otherwise he is interested in bouts against Golovkin, Froch or Groves.

Kessler has had almost a year layoff after his second fight against Froch.

I was hoping, that he would stop his career - he is a bit over the hill.
Would be a decent test for Golovkin though.

Not interesting in seeing him fight Ward but the other 3 would be good (regardless of the result of Froch-Groves)

I just followed the Press Conference on Twitter (Thanks to Google Translate), but they did not mention Golovkin, only Ward, Froch & Groves.

Wonder if I missed something or someone made Golovkin up.

I think he was a legit world champion before his fights with Calzaghe and Ward. Took the WBC belt from an undefeated Froch too.

and i'm not trying to discredit either Kessler or froch at all, but world champion should mean 'champion of the world' (like it does in other sports)

the two fighters you mentioned (ward and calzaghe) are the only genuine world champions at SMW over the last few years

The Danish tabloid "Ekstra Bladet" reports the GGG fight as a possibility. Not the first time a Kessler - Golovkin fights has been brought up though.

Who he really wants is Froch for Kessler-Froch III. That would be an easy pay day win or lose.

If Grove wins he'd want that.

Ward is last on his list because although he'd get paid, it's a sure loss.

I follow your thought. Being a "world champion" is a question of definition. But if you hold a belt in an organization, you are regarded as their champion of the world. Kessler has held multiple belts, but I agree that he has never been the kingpin of SMW.

    :good
    i'm pretty passionate about this
it's so easy to fool the casual fans. just look at felix '4 time world champion' sturm in Germany...he's never faced a top MW his entire career, yet he is richer than most who have fought in the division over the past 15 years

it's business taking over from achievement, and they do it because it's easy to sell

Would love to see Kessler-Groves, I have a good feeling Groves will be Froch this month

Bet on it...but only bet what you can afford to lose.
