Kessler has decided to hire a coach to work on his mental fortitude. This is apparently what he meant about getting new resources for his preparations.

Here's the article. It is a google translation so I don't know if it will make any sense...

    http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=da&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fekstrabladet.dk%2Fsport%2Fanden_sport%2Fboksning%2Farticle1268882.ece&sl=da&tl=en

I'm personally very disappointed with this move. I think he should get a new trainer as well.
If he can't realize that he need to change his style of boxing when fighting guys like Ward or Dirrel then he is asking for trouble.

Added a poll. Please vote and state your reasons in this thread.

Looks like Ward has mentally broken Kessler.

Like I said all along, Kessler lacks heart/balls (or whatever you want to call it).

Kessler went into a shell when Calzaghe switched up tactics for 6 rounds, not because he couldn't compete, but because he was unnerved by the move.

Against Ward this became more apparent, Kessler deep down is lacking heart.

I don't believe he lacks heart IMO, he was getting schooled by Ward but still would not stop coming forward throwing punches. I think its just a confidence thing. People where going on about how Kessler was a monster and it probably got to him, so to be beat like he did made him doubt himself, but he doesn't lack heart.

I think he lacks a trainer who can teach him to compete with guys like Ward who won't just stand around and get tagged by the jab all night.

eventhough hiring a mental coach is a step in the right direction, it just doesnt cut it.

the major problem.. kessler is a BOXER, BUT not a FIGHTER. If a guy headbuts or uses elbows, you do a tyson and retaliate.

thats also the major reason, that i see the froch fight as much much closer now. Froch will test mikkels mentality. if it comes down to a battle of wills, froch wil win. If froch can make it a dog fight and play mindgames leading up to the fight, he wil win.

Mikkel needs to make it a boxing match, but im not sure he can, as we saw the quicker dirrell failing, at exactly that.

Kessler looked very sloppy even before the Ward fight. He's not hungry for boxing anymore, even though he say he is. He's very comfortable with his many millions and doesnt take his workout serious enough.

**** mental coaches, get your **** together Kessler or retire!

While I agree with your assessment about Kessler/ Froch being a little closer than originally viewed, I think Dirrell proved that Froch can be boxed and outboxed. Without getting into the merits of the decision, Froch looked badly outclassed that night by a young, unproven fighter, who, if he had had a better gameplan, or used less of the tactics he did, should have beaten Froch. Now, obviously, Kessler doesnt bring the same game, but there is no doubt he is a better boxer than Froch....maybe not a better fighter, but certainly a better boxer. Plus, this one will be in Kessler's backyard. Should be a real good fight.

Kessler need to realize that certain styles can cause him big problems. He needs to get a trainer that can teach him to fight better on the inside and not get thrown of by fighters that breaks his rythm.

Richard Olsen has done a hell of a job making Kessler into an amateur fighter who can go 12 rounds...

Agree with TA. Kessler needs a trainer. A new tactical base would compliment his natural speed, power, and athleticism powerfully.

im not dismissing kesslers chances, but its easy to see, that he has lost more then just 1 step. And as the poster above you points out, he doesnt seem willing to go give 100 percent and then some.

the majority of the smw top 20, are better boxers then froch, but none of them match him, in the "insane selfconfidence" category:yep

dirrell could have done better, but wasnt allowed to, froch kept coming eventhough dirrell was lightyears faster.

as a dane its sad say it, but i see kessler crumbling under the pressure. He had problems with the press prior to andrade, joe and ward. He didnt like the attention the big fights brought, now imagine him, with the press stuck to his ass, constantly asking how it feels to be stopped..?

this is crossroads time for kessler, and the danish press will be like voltures asking questions and froch will certainly use mindgames and the press as leverage.

i see a competetive fight, and as said much much closer the first anticipated, and at present time i have froch as the favorite, not by much though.

cant disagree with anything you wrote, but more with what you didnt mention.

and that is the mental aspect and the willingness to give 100 % and then some. Kessler has complacency written on his forehead.

Agreed. I was amazed at how bad Kessler footwork was in the Ward fight. Ward was quick on his feet, but Kessler was very very slow compared to what I've seen of him prior to this fight.
