Kessler against Calzaghe Haye against Mormeck Hatton against Mayweather Can anyone else think of fighters that over the last couple of years were hugely popular champions and entered the lions den abroad having a huge hostile crowd against them? I thought about this because we were discussing Carlos Monzon in another thread and Monzon'd record in that respect is truely amazing. Nothing protected there.
Kessler and Haye clearly qualify, but suggesting that Hatton had a 'huge hostile crowd' against him in Vegas is laughable, the majority of the crowd (and certainly the loudest part) were Hatton fans.
I would hardly say entering lions den for Hatton.... Do you even remember that fight? It was PRO- Hatton , there were more brits there and of course they had their Band and songs..... so you were very wrong for that fight at least.
Briggs is a New Zealander who had never fought outside Australia prior to that fight. Why would a crowd in the USA be so passionately in his favour?
In fact I just read a report of that match that seems to suggest the opposite: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/07/AR2006100701301.html
Kessler fought with 54.000 spectators from wales and maybe 2.000 danes.... i dont think either Haye or anyone else in the past has done something near that.... Hatton are you serious
