Kessler interview. (On the Calzaghe fight)

Kessler's trainer is bemoaning the fact that Mikkel didn't have an overall masterplan? Isn't the trainer supposed to work those kind of things out with the boxer?

 

Kessler is just doing as any professional boxer must after being closed out of a fight, finding reasons to believe that they could reverse the result to rebuild their confidence. Even Jeff Lacy said this and said that in a rematch he feels 100% confident he would beat Calzaghe.

Lets face it, both of them simply got out hustled on the night by a more effective boxer, I don't know what could have been more of an exclaimation point in the fight other than Calzaghe outlanding Kessler's jab 2-1 and having Kessler's jab accuracy down around the 20% marker.

As anyone knows, Kessler works solely from the jab, if it's taken away from him, he really doesn't have much else.

I think a rematch would go even further in Joe's favour - take a look at the Veit rematch.

 

I liked your points up until this.

The first fight ended in a first round TKO with Veit down thrice I think.

The second fight lasted 6 (?) rounds with Veit having some fleeting moments.

 

I thought Veit was overawed in the first fight and really beat himself, you could see his nervous energy and the moment he got tagged, he went into panic mode.

Second fight, Veit was more prepared and was also a better fighter ( in my humble view) - he was also fighting at home and not in the cauldron of Wales. Joe shut him out of the fight and I think was 50-44 after five before the stoppage came.

I just liked the performance more by Calzaghe, I thought the first performance, Veit beat himself.

 

its insane to compare calzaghes fight against lacy with his kesslerfight!
lacy was torn to pieces and didnt stand a freaking chance!
kessler on the other hand were in the fight all the way but lost due to his missing plan b, and his corner were doing all the wrong things that night. kessler winning round 12 says it all, were lacy should have been taken out after round 7 or 8!

and joe was just too slick and smart.joe was the smartest fighter that night.

Joe is a great fighter, kessler is a very good fighter and the best man won plain and simple.

No disgrace losing to calzaghe every one else has :deal

 

What? He admited that the hand didn't hurt or cause problems during the fight? Doesn't sound like he's making excuses to me.

 

Keesler states the obvious, game plan strategy etc....but the problem Kessler has, is that he is not an ELITE fighter or P4P caliblre to follow out a gameplan.

Hes got a very European style Jab Jab Right Hand, he can get away with that **** against washe dup champs and rugby players.

 

Iven if Kesssler has 10 plans, when the hell has this guy ever fought any other way?

He panicked and got dominated by a 35 yr old Calzaghe, a 30 yr old Calzaghe would have probably stopped him.

Its a fact that the Supermiddle division is a very weak division(for past 10 years)

It is the only reason why fighters like Kessler win championships.

Toney Nunn Jones Mcullum benn would have tore Kessler a new A-hole in that era.
