He could beat Mundine up for the WBC, or set something up with Bute?

I'm one of those who think that Kessler would've been called to the ring in the Calzaghe fight as a p4p-er if he was a US fighter or won his world titles just 2 years earlier.

But to say that he is better than anyone Hopkins has ever defeated is foolish. The skill level is very high in Kessler. Calling him a one dimensional fighter is a very serious mistake. Just one fight, the Calzaghe fight needed here to see how well is he on the inside, outside, boxing, slugging, with accurate punches, with his timing, defense, offense - what more do you want from a boxer type of fighter?

But only in the skill level does Kessler match Hopkins' best wins but his resume is far from DLH's, Winky's, Tito's, and Tarver's.

So he's not better than anyone Hopkins has ever fought. If Kessler would've stepped up to the world championship level in 2000 instead of 2004 this question wouldn't be a hard one to answer. But he didn't. He's a terrific fighter but he's yet to defeat some really big names. And I believe he can beat anyone from MW to LHW including Pavlik, Taylor, Wright, Abraham, Hopkins, Dawson, Bute - but he's yet to prove it.

i'd contest the fact that eubank was a natural at MW. he had to drain himself big time to reach 168 most of the time, never mind 160. he's a massive, broad guy. the guy also ended his career at cruiser so saying he was a natural at MW is a bit of a stretch.

Calzaghe has a decent resume but Hopkins has a mighty impressive resume that surpasses it by a long yarn.
