Danish media report that Sauerland is looking at a possible fight for Kessler against Shumenov for the WBA titel as his next fight. If that one does not get made they are also talking of Martinez or Pavlik as potential next fights. To be honest I think this makes sense. If Kessler could win another belt, defend it once or twice and finish off with a huge payday against Froch in England. Right now I don´t see why the Froch fight should happen next. It would be a potential career ender for both, and Froch and his camp has stated that they would prefer a softer fight for Froch next before meeting Kessler again. Wouldn´t mind a Cleverly-Kessler fight in England either. Could produce a big crowd also. Your thoughts?
I'd like to see Shumenov in a big fight but, according to his promoter, he has several options and I don't see any reason to delay the Froch-Kessler rematch. It's as big now as it'll ever be and neither guy is going to get any better. I could understand if Froch wanted an easier night next time but if not, it has to be Froch-Kessler II. Shumenov-Cleverly sounds good to me.
Can't happen because Froch has a rematch clause with Bute...and when Froch was asked directly he said that he wanted Kessler, but not right now because "I have met enough monsters in a row".
Bute would be mad to take the rematch instantly, i really can't see that fight happening. Froch is a warrior, he'll probably change his mind in a couple of weeks and call out Ward, Kessler etc. Kessler vs Froch II is the hottest fight in the division and it won't get any hotter. They're both coming in off brutal KO victories over good opposition and it's the fight to be made.
Seeing as Gaby Campillo isn't getting a rematch with Cloud I'd like to see either a rubber match with Shumenov or a fight with Cleverly. I'd prefer the former to the latter really, but I'd expect him to outbox either over 12 rounds - Clev especially - but whether he'd get the win or not is another story. Frank W won't put Clev in with either Gaby or Shumenov though. I expect him to go down the route of Enzo Mac or a Bellew rematch, then maybe his mandatory. I'm not a fan of Cleverly - or rather a fan of him as a "world" champion - but that's not really his fault. I think his competition will gradually step up into 2013 but I don't think Frank W is in any rush to put him up against world class opponents.
I can't see Shumenov's team putting him in with Campillo again - after their first two fights, we know that Campillo is all wrong for him. In a fair world, he'd get a rematch with Cloud or a title shot. I was a bit surprised that Frank is seemingly considering putting Cleverly in with a world-class talent because his recent opposition has left a lot to be desired - a second Bellew fight is probably the best we can expect right now.
I've actually been saying the same. . Froch/KEssler will ALWAYS be there. . It's not like it's significant for the division because Ward is already the best @ 168 regardless of who wins that fight. . . I was wanting Kessler, or Froch to take on the winner of Cloud/Pascal. . . But Shumenov would be a GREAT fight style wise for Kessler. . . Pavlik, Martinez, Cleverly are all great fights for Kessler as well (or Froch for that matter).
Froch-Cleverly in England. (Crowd pleaser) Kessler-Shumenov in Denmark.(Kessler always draws people in) Maybe a tune up fight for both should they both win: Froch-Martinez/Pavlik. Either would do. Kessler-Martinez/Pavlik. Either would do. If they both defend: Unifying the belts in Nottingham. :bbb Noone could argue that wouldn´t be worth waiting for, while giving both fighters good fights and good pay on the way there.
I think that's just talk really. He's been saying Clev's "next fight" will be against a true world class opponent since he won the belt. Personally I don't think Clev will graduate to that level with his dad training him, and I doubt that Frank W hasn't pondered it has well.
Are you suggesting a blown-up Welterweight in Martinez should go up in weight and fight Froch or Kessler? :roflatsch
