Hang on, why exactly has Kessler got to fight Froch again?

Weird post. Stieglitz basically is a foregone conclusion. There is not a single thing Stieglitz does that is better than Kessler. All the things Stieglitz is okay at (there is nothing he's great at), Kessler is better at. Kessler has a better jab, a stronger right hand, is bigger and stronger, has more power, a better chin, more experience at the top level. Stieglitz is a straight up fighter, how are you going to out straight up Kessler? It's a thankless task for him.

Whereas Bute, actually is a very very tricky assignment for Kessler. A southpaw that punches from unusual angles and is athletically gifted is always going to cause a lot of problems for him.

he's WBC Emeritus Champion so he in essence he is Froch's mandatory once the Super 6 is finished or Ward should he win it.

I wouldn't bother fighting Froch again, whats the point? Already beat him. Belts shouldn't mean **** to Kessler anymore.

The only reason I'd want to get the WBO belt is to perhaps warrant a better deal with Bute, so that makes sense to go for it. As well as the fact it would be smart to get a half decent contest in against a decent fighter beforehand.

Why not fight Froch? It was a good fight the first time round and Froch has done well enough since to earn a rematch.

I'd love Kessler/Bute next but understand why they want Stieglitz. Kessler should really do a job on Stieglitz who isn't that good at the top level.

He's already taken Froch's 0. Yeah it was fairly close, but at the same time clear. We don't need a rematch for every single fight thats like that, no matter how much Froch mouths off about volcanoes. The thing is, people go on about Froch using his skills in a rematch, but actually he needed to stand to toe a bit more in that fight rather than trying to be clever. Kessler was pushing him back and looking in control of the fight. I don't think grit is something Froch lacks so perhaps people need to just accept Kessler was/is the stronger fighter?

I'd rather he gunned for Bute and tried to take that 0. It does more for him than beating Froch again. If I'm Kessler now I care about the challenge, the legacy I leave behind, the money, factors like that. I'm not particularly arsed about the WBC belt again.

The WBC would mean jack to Kessler - Froch anyway, because Ward would have it.

I was just trying to unify the belts in that meaningless little scenario above.

We'd have Ward, Bute and Kessler as chapions so we'd need a fourth fighter to partake in a 'semi-final'.

The only rematch I could see happening is Ward/Kessler in the future. Which would be even more pointless.

I see Ward beating Froch, kessler beating Stieglitz. Undecided on Bute/Kessler but if Kessler won he could fight Ward for all the marbles. This is all dreamworld stuff anyway, will never happen this easily outside a tournament.

I think Froch will just move up after he loses to Ward.

If, as expected, Ward wins the Super Six and goes straight for Bute who would you want Kessler to fight? Can't get a better oppo than Froch.

Kessler beats Stieglitz, Bute beats Mendy and Pavlik, Ward beats Froch, Ward vs Bute, Kessler vs ??

Gotta be Froch. He beat him clear enough the first time but there's still enough interest there and it'd be a bigger event in England.

I personally think Kessler is hanging around for maybe 3 more fights, 4 tops, to get some big paydays then retire, he has already indicated he won't move up to 175.

So now Kessler is going to go to England to rematch a guy he already beat clearly? I don't think so, not unless he gets an offer he can't refuse. I just don't see the point in it. All my attention would be on Bute. I also think ruling out 175 was a mistake.

He doesn't have to come to England but it'd be a bigger fight in this country what with Sky involved and everything.

But if Bute and Ward are tied up who do you want him fighting?

I can't see Ward being too fussed on a rematch with Kessler as well. He beat him easy enough the first time.

I personally don't think it could have gone either way, Kessler won that but I don't get why TFFP is so against a rematch.

A lot may depend on how Froch fares against Ward.

At this moment in time there is no reason why Bute should be tied up. He can do whatever he wants while Kessler fights Stieglitz, but then team Kessler should be putting everything into making that fight. Whether they have to pay extremely well to get Lucy out of Canada, or whether he gets paid extremely well to go to Montreal, or whether its done straight down the middle in America (unlikely admittedly).

Or Kessler could try and beat Bute to Pavlik, that was a styles clash I always liked the look of, it would be an outstanding fight. He may not be as good as Froch but its a new name on the record, it would be easy to make in the US, it would pay very well.

If I couldn't get that fight I'd just move up as theres nothing left. I'm not a fan of rematching people for the sake of it because the first fight was good. There has to be some legitimate doubt over the validity of the first result, volcanoes don't really cut it. Otherwise its really not doing a lot for your legacy and that + money is basically all Kessler can be fighting for. He's had enough belts and he's never going to beat Ward to become an undisputed champ. The only achievement left in that scenario is to become a champion at a different weight.
