I got this from respected columnist Dan Rafael's scorecard column. How ironic is this? Kessler originally pulled out of the Miranda fight in hopes of forcing Mundine to fight him for his WBA regular title. Now he might have to fight Miranda if he wants it.
He has an impressive record, period (especially when these sanctioning bodies all know he beat Abraham). Plus it's politics. Obviously Miranda's manager and promoter are doing a hell of a job with him.
Why not? If nobody else wants to fight Kessler and he is willing to, then it makes sense. Miranda was ranked #1 across the board at MW when he lost to Pavlik. It seems most people do believe the weight is what killed him and he will do better at 168lbs. So why cant a guy #1 across the board who lost do to weight issues not be ranked high at the next weight class? Especially when you throw in the fact he dominated Allan Green, who was a highly regarded SMW at the time.
Well, Green wasn't as highly regarded as much as all that. But, sure, with Calzaghe (175), Bute (IBF), Mundine (160), Froch (WBC elim), Inkin (WBC elim), Andrade (IBF mand), Tsypko (injured) and Bika (???) out of the way, yeah, Kessler should fight Miranda...although Bika has proven to be more deserving of a shot.
Wait a minute, wasn't one of the excuses given for Kessler dropping out of the fight was because he was going to fight for a vacant title at LHW? Who has Kessler fought at LHW to deserve a title shot there?
