His old trainer has been with him since he first started so it might be a problem as Kess probably wants to be a loyal guy, however I think he is getting stale and needs some fresh blood to teach him how to be less "robotic" like, and how to apply more pressure. In the Calzaghe fight, his trainer was pathetic with his "just hit him, hit him hard" comments. However he did mention to "keep pressuring him, don't give him any breaks" between rounds, . . . something I believe is Kessler biggest downfall, and the main reason he lost the fight - his lack of PRESSURE. Although he got outboxed in most rounds, Kess was able to stun Joe several times, however did not follow up on his attack. Several times Kess would land a great 1-2 combination, and it's almost as if he simply justs sits back and admires his good work, rather than following up on his attack and applying pressure. It's the same story in all his fights. He does not seem to have that killer instinct to finish guys off, and apply more pressure when he has hurt his oppoent. Although I'm a huge fan of his abilities, I think he is just too technical the majority of the time.
Ya... I just re-watched that fight recently and noticed the same thing. Kesslers corner was a joke! Hit him hard? Don't give him any breaks? WTF? Is that the best advice you could offer your man in the biggest fight of his life? They didn't even have enswell for his eyes... not even ice! Thanks for nothin coach.
Favorite quote from Kesslers trainer (after rd 10 of the Andrade fight): "Stop getting hit it's F****** annoying to watch!" Totally agree. First he told MK to keep distance from Calzaghe, then told him not to give him any room. That doesn't make sense.
he needs to go to america and get trained by one of the big trainers over there and make a lot of noise to attract the big fights, hes wasteing his prime years at the minute
Kessler is not robotic in the slightest, the half Dane is a quality fighter poor trainer.corner or not.
Kessler does put pressure on his opponent. He does that by usually backing them up with his jab and using that as a basis for his attacks. He's not a typical pressure fighter, thats not his style and I doubt it ever will be. Not being able to push Calzaghe back means nothing, nobody has ever come forwards to Calzaghe with any success as he has great footwork and his handspeed can be overwhelming.
