Yes two things jump out: Calzaghe clearly outjabbed Kessler (and Kessler stopped trying early) and that Kessler landed nearly half his powershots - same as versus Andrade

 

Probably most remarkable is the 16%, a catastrophe IMO. We are used to praising MKs accuracy but this must be an all time low for him? Does anyone no MKs jab percent against the other southpaws he met? Were these numbers significantly higher it only adds to JCs skill level.

 

He has only faced Beyer with punchstats - in that fight he didn't have problems landing the jab... Calzaghe beat him to the jab most of the time - it wasn't as much his stance that was the deciding factor, it was his speed and tactical smartness.

So what's on your mind here, a small tactical change or a major one? I ask because I've seen some criticism of the way MKs coach(es) handled the fight in terms of tactical adjustments.

 

We already knew before the fight he'd hurt his hand but it was nice of him not to mention it in the post-fight interview.

Well two things - his corner had a bad effect on his confidence, which made Calzaghe's job easier.

secondly - Kessler had decent succes, when he put Calzaghe under pressure.

I don't think the corner could have won Kessler the fight, but a tie wouldn't be out of reach - 10-15 punches more in round 5 and 6 and the fight would have been a tie.

I don't think his trainer had prepared him well enough - neither do I think he had studied Calzaghe proberbly.

Kessler's trainer called Calzaghe's boxing "gak gak" - I'm not sure how to translate that - but something like wacky should cover it. And he confirmed that after the fight - a fight where Calzaghe boxed the most textbook in his career.

Calzaghe is hard to prepare against - but I think Kessler did pretty well adapting during the fight - after all he did land 47% of his powershots - even without his trademark jab - I don't think anybody can match that against Calzaghe. And that promises well for the future. But you don't go into a fight with someone like Calzaghe without a prober plan B.
