I agree with you completely. I rate Kessler highly and it 's because of this that I'm so damn frustrated with his lack of opposition of late.
Kessler will beat anyone other than calzaghe. Kessler would destroy overated dawson by KO after seeing his performance against johnson who is a pritty hard puncher but kessler hits harder so he would kill dawson.
Cant believe someone just said Taylor only fights in his comort zone. Hopkins twice, Pavlik twice (after being brutally KOd first time around) and Winky Wright and yet he only fights in his comfort zone.... He may not be the most exciting fighter around but he's as brave as they come. If only other boxers followed his example.
No, I consider comfort zone to be exactly what it says. For example, if Kessler had fought Calzaghe in the Parken Stadium at SMW, then although that still would have been the toughest fight for him at the weight, it still would have been in his comfort zone. He was willing to step outside that to go to Cardiff and fight Calzaghe in front of 65000 Calzaghe fans. It's a different kind of risk, a different kind of test. Likewise, going to Australia to fight Mundine. That kind of thing is not expected or seen from the rated young American fighters these days (although still seen from less hyped lights like Bradley for instance) which is to the detriment both of fans and their own development.
Fair enough. Sartison was ok but Team Palle have now had months up their sleeve and much recent "verbal" action comes from being unsucessfull getting anybody decent into the ring with him. Why does Kessler need to hold Mogens Palle's hand every time a trip is prepared for the states? Palle should be over there negotiating deals for Kessler on the go whether Kessler have spare time or not. Trust me, Team Palle does not have the luxury of multiple class fighters in their stable and should be thankfull that Kessler have worked out the way he has!
To change his agent hed have to grow some balls first. He left them on his ringstool in Wales after the fifth round, still hasnt got them back
I think the Miranda-fight was handled badly by Mogens Palle. But..... if Kessler had knocked the head of Miranda, he would have got his exposure on HBO/Showtime and scared the **** out of Wright, Hopkins, Pavlik, Froch, Bute and Taylor. At the end of 2008 he has got his title back and with one titledefence he has certainly earned more than from a single US-fight and the other blokes are still scared and will by no means risk their future by fighting the Great Dane. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR9Ksn4a4ec
You'r new, so let me clue ya in. In the ESB world Jermain Taylor was a paper champion who lost two fights to Hopkins, and only fights welterweights against whom he looked like ****. He is ducking Carl Froch because he's scared of him, and Kessler would make a fool of him. This has nothing to do with the real world, but it's the way things are on ESB.
I think it goes back to the fact that Kessler's management really screwed the pooch on the Miranda/Kessler Showtime deal. Miranda was hot at that time, and Kessler was coming off a good performance against Calzaghe. Kessler/Miranda would have gone down a bit like Pavlik/Miranda; a bit slower and 1 or 2 rounds longer because Mikkel is not as agressive as KP. Still a fun fight to watch. Kessler would now be a VERY marketable fighter. Good lookin', articulate, white guy that can really fight. HBO would be begging him for dates.
If that is true, Taylor should be publicly ridiculed. That may make him man up. Noone has heard of this and therefore Taylor can say no without fear of consequences. If the fans hear about it this will ruin his rep and he may have to take the fight. That doesn't mean he would loose. Remember that Clzaghe also did not really want the Lacy fight.
It is not about being scared. IT is about having something to gain for taking the risk of meeting Kessler. Everyone knows Kessler is good and taking some journeymen on won't change that. What he needs to do is fight at a higher level consistently without the duds in between. Basically he has to make the reward for beating him big enough to warrant the risk. The reward would have been bigger had h beaten Miranda then. The belt also helps of ocurse, but he shoul not waste more of his late prime on duds. The mandatory is Perdomo.. which is embarrasing of WBA to put someone like that in a title fight. Perdomo recently lost to Sartison :/ On the other hand, Taylor, Winky, Hopkins etc. should be called out on their fear of the risk Kessler brings. However, especially Taylor has no excuse - and it would be such a great fight. HBO is itching to make it and KEssler is ready... only Taylor is scared. Not on for a top athlete not to want to take on the best.
Kessler v Dawson would be one of the best fights out there this year, but he refused to go to 175 - sadly. I'd love that fight.
