I was a little bit surprised to read so many people calling for a 3rd match. Not just fans on Twitter & these forums, but boxing journalists to.

I'm not taking anything away from Froch, but in my opinion (not that it counts for much) Kessler just doesn't have it anymore. He could only fight in bursts, he was pretty got on his feet, and when he did have Froch hurt he said it himself, he didnt have the energy to do anything about it.

I don't want to see a third fight because Kessler will get beat even worse. I also don't want to see him fight Groves and become that "faded" former great that pads a up amd coming fighters record.

If he is sound financially, surley he retires?

Or is their a risk he goes chasing paydays and gets seriously hurt?

I don't think he's going to do anything he hasn't already done, so in that respect he probably should retire.

I never really have problem with people fighting on longer than they should though, provided they are medically cleared to do so. You're a long time retired and when there's still big money to be made, he's earned the right to collect a few pay days.

I'd say Froch/Kessler III is a near certainty, even if it's just for Carl's vanity rather than an actual competitive contest.

I'd like to see him retire due to his eye, but he's earned the right to go out when he pleases.

He showed on Saturday that he has plenty left and he'd be favoured over everyone bar Ward and Froch. Stylistically Dirrell is a nightmare for him but that'd never happen anyway. I'd back him against Bute, Pascal, Cleverly etc at 175 aswell.

Have him face Bute and then go out with a victory.

I just wonder if his lack of activity was the main reason for this, he still had the moves and at times it looked like he was ready to take over the bout but it seemed that Carl's fitness and sharpness due too being more active eventually told.

If the 3rd fight was to happen I'd like to see Kessler have a tune up fight after the summer and then box Carl before the end of the year.

I think Kessler's resistance is going down pretty fast.

If he was to face Carl again he needs to push the pace, forget the body shots and throw more combo's. That said, Carl coul take 5 of Kessler's shots and hit him with just 1 and it'd be danger for Mikkel.

  7. What a load of bollox, the guy is one of the best smw in the world yet because he may noy have what it takes to be the very best he should retire. By that logic anybody not good enough to be elite should just cal it quits, ****ing nonsense. Kessler can stil beat 99% of the fighters in the world and still be very competitive with the other 1% so as long as he's medically fit there absolutely no reason why he should stop

I think he should at least have 1 more fight and go out on a win against a winnable opponent but as Top level fighter I just don't think he has the stamina or work rate to compete I just don't see where he goes maybe the winner of Abraham vs Steiglitz If he carries on.

Kessler is younger than Froch but that was Kessler's 49th fight whilst it was just Froch's 33rd. We are not going to see Kessler improve on anything we've already seen. And after the seriousness of the damage he previously did to his optic nerve then unless the financial incentive is strong enough he should call it a day.

  10. He said that he tought he won the fight , and would go gone watch it before making any decisions

A third fight would the biggest fight in terms of $$$$$ they would make more in that than the first two

Did he show no punch resistance? Nope
Was he missing badly with his shots? Nope
Has he lost the pop from his punches? Nope
Did he gas in the second half of the fight? Nope

Imo Kessler still has a lot to offer based on what I saw at the weekend.
Anyone think him fighting Groves, DeGale, Steiglitz, Bute, Abraham, Oosthuizen or Rodriguez are bad fights?

A younger Kessler would have won. He would have followed through and delivered in the 11th. He said it himself - he didn't have the energy to follow through.

He still has a lot to offer, but I'm a fan and I don't want him losing when he's not quite prime any more. Also his eye is a risk.

Kessler is a true warrior, a great fighter. But I agree he is finished now. One more fight in Denmark against a winnable opponent for a good send off. He deserves it.

Dont think there is need for a 3rd fight - i thought that everytime Froch landed big Kessler felt it - he got disorganised more than once and there were a couple of ocassions where I thought Froch was going to get the stoppage. just needed one more big shot

Kessler could still do well against the rest of the divison though and a Bute fight would still sell well would it worth a trundle up to light heavy to face Clev? Clevs work rate might be to much if the sparing stories are true.

There are options but i think he maybe finished at the A level

Kessler has nothing to prove, he is still one of the best SMW out there. I'd retire or go out with one more winnable fight in denmark
