The first so called tune up fight was title fight against an undefeated fighter. And the second is being forced on Kessler by the WBA, who would strip him of the belt otherwise. I for one dont see it as a step back to regain a title.
You do know that he had a handinjury leading up to the Calzaghe fight? and undergone surgery after the fight. If you look closer at Kesslers fight record, you will discover that he rarely fights more often than twice a year. The reason is that he has chronic backproblems, so his body can not endure the pressure of serious fight training to often. So Kessler is a twice a year fighter!
Then, he should be seeking bigger fights. Plenty of fights to be made for him now. After he gets by Haussler, he should be targeting his fellow title holders. He dosen't time on his side if he's only going to be fighting twice a year. He needs to make the fights count.
I agree... And it should be easier to land fights with the WBA title... I have no doubt that he will try to unify the belts at 168.
:rofl hahahahah now that is funny!!!! Is there a fighter Winky has not turned down or priced himself out of in the last 2 years= ? At this stage of his career Winky is a joke!
I think Haussler is his last get out of jail free card. After that he needs stop pissing around with ok(ish) fighters who aren't quite worldclass and take on some bigger names. Otherwise he's gonna become the next Mundine.
Guy loses one fight and suddenly his career is in jeopardy. :-( Sartison was undefeated so Kessler could have done alot worse with that choice and Haussler's just a mandatory. I could understand people being upset with Kessler if he was some big mouth spouting off about how he's gonna conquer the boxing world but that's hardly the case. Give the guy some credit. He goes to other fighters' backyards when he could stay in Denmark and make money fighting safe fights and on top of that he's a gentleman, which is good for boxing. How many times have you actually heard a fighter admit that the opponent hurt him like he did after the Calzaghe fight? I've seen fighters get knocked down and say they were never hurt. The inactivity is an issue but why do people get so uptight about it? Fans seem to feel that fighters owe them. If I were Kessler I'd stay in Europe and make as much money as I can. Boxing in America isn't what it used to be. The average sports fan here has no idea who Joe Calzaghe is even though he just beat bernard Hopkins and I find it funny that Arthur Abraham came here to beat Edison Miranda when he didn't really have to. He just manned up and fought Miranda in his house but the truth is that Miranda isn't all that popular. This whole "coming to the US thing" is a thing of the past IMO. Kessler needs to rush over here to fight guys that aren't popular outside of their own hometowns just so he can say he fought in America? Give me a break.
This I actually agree with. I don't care where a fighter fought. Just who. As for Kessler, I can excuse Sartison and Haussler as they are at least competent but I'd hate to see not get any big fights in the future. Possibly Froch,Pascall or Taylor next up?
Kesslers biggest weakness is fighting on the back foot. Any fighter that takes the fight to him on keeps him under pressure (Hatton style) would do well against him. Kessler go and learn how to counter punch.
Haussler is Hatton style. Kessler is an excellent counter puncher. Did you btw watch the Andrade fight?
