You need to get back on your medication my man!:nut But I guess time will tell, although I feel JC will give a dose of his own medicine to your pretend king!
I have revisited Calzaghe vs Lacy and Kessler vs Andrade and I don't think so from a complete unbiased point of view. Calzaghe is too Goddamn fast and fluid with both hands and much lighter on his feet... Under an athomphere of 60 thousand, Kessler will probably start out tentative, will definitely get tagged too many times and most probably have Joe hurt just a coupla times, Calzaghe by UD... But one can always claim something Sunday morning, even if it's not a kingdom, maybe the bravery of a good duel.
I don't think Calzaghe is as fast as he was- he looked slow and older in his last fight. Its goig to be a hard night for Joe but his instinct may get him the win by UD
He's that fast handed, ambidextrous, extremelly accurate and mobile. And can box behind a good right jab since he's not really disadvantaged in terms of reach to the Dane, maybe in punching power impact but that's also arguable. Above all, he's very consistent at this stage still. Actually, Calzaghe is very pleasant to watch and throws the old cliché about ethnic-pugilistic connections right down the toilet and that is very important from the Global POV, actually like Wladimir Klitschko, Mikkel Kessler and Paulie Mallignaggi do but at a different level and in another sense.
Agrees with some of what you write. 1) About reach I don't think it translates directly into your actual arm length. I think Kessler's punches are more straight and carries their punching power further away from his body than does Calzaghe. 2) Yes, JC is accurate but not as much as MK IMO. Most of the vids available justifies my view. 3) Calzaghe is fun to watch but I don't think his style is easy on the eye because he slaps at times and has quite a number of misses among his huge volume of punches.
Let's see about what we disagree then. 1) There's no question about the power from Kessler's straight punches - he probably does discharge more Newtons or kilograms of force than Calzaghe, and maybe further away from his body. But having acknowledged that, it is also true that Calzaghe's curved punches get home first cause he puts his whole body balance behind them, and they are not definitely arm punches ( slaps) cause they are thrown from the position where his elbows are in contact with his body. So at a given moment, Calzaghe gets first and Kessler has to punch back after being hit first and that is hard to do. 2) I was solely based on Calzaghe vs Lacy and Kessler vs Andrade, two fights whose importance may resemble this up-coming fight, Calzaghe was so damn accurate that no one can believe he won't beat whoever if he connects like that... The same cannot be said about Kessler if he fights like against Andrade. I cannot speak about other situations I may not know about. 3) The point of being pleasing and eye-catching ultimately goes to the judges and their scoring criteria, I believe. As a fan, I like both styles but I consider that Calzaghe missed a lot of his high volume of punches against Manfredo and the ones that landed certainly didn't create the impact of Kessler's punches on Andrade in his last outing ( even as Manfredo was halted and Andrade was not). But I really feel that if it goes down to scoring for clean punching only ( besides ring generalship, defense and effective aggressiveness), this one can go to Kessler on points - counting all criteria on scoring, probably Calzaghe pulls it and it will be controversial ( another robbery as some may claim).
I can follow you on your item 2) and 3), so I won't comment on those. Just one remark on your item 1). It seems to me that you rely on JC being sufficiently close to hit MK first. This very point will be one of the interesting things to watch tomorrow. Will MK stand his ground and deliver or will he step back a bit. Can't wait!
Calzaghe does not use his whole body when hitting. Its merely his hands(arms) that go like drumsticks. The way he hits is totally wrong, and its no wonder he keep breaking his hands. I am curious to see how much volume punching we are gonna see from Joe, when he gets up against a mobile target, who doesn't get lured into standing in the pocket with him, or gets against the ropes. We have had a new king for a few years, and he is gonna cement it on sunday.
