What you fail to realise or admit is that most divisions are becoming dominated by NON-American fighters, so while you may not know of them this does not mean they are bums, ****, substandard etc etc. Also look at the manner in which he won, before Calzaghe he dominated every single opponent he fought and beat them clearly, can you say the same of Dawson?
I'm going to say Dawson on points, but I certainly wouldn't discount Kessler. This is a fight I would really like to see. Kessler's a big SM, and it would be an interesting match up.
awesome power...if calz was any less of a man he would of hit the canvas for sure.i have said it before when calz retires kessler will dominate from mw to lhw.
But but but... Kessler cant fight on the inside! :rofl Joe's chin is pretty iron chinned as well as having some of the best recovery skills to shake of a HUGE cleanly landed shot. If he does get hurt he certainly hides it well, whereas Dawson didn't in the Johnson fight, but unfortunately for Glen he didn't have the hand or footwork to end matters. Kessler in my opinion does... He hits much harder than Johnson, much faster with better punch technique and accuracy. Nice gifs by the way :good
Calzaghe almost knocked Kessler out if it weren't for that ref ... Dawson is taller, longer, faster, and stronger than both Calzaghe and Kessler.
Calzaghe didn't almost knock Kessler out at all, he hurt him and forced him back and Mikkel recovered well. He's taller, longer, faster but not stronger than Kessler imo, plus he has some pretty big negative points. Like his defense and chin for one, but he also tires easily and gets less effective as the fight goes on. I still think this is a close fight, but ultimately his shakey beard fails him and he takes a short nap on the canvas.
There are some real delusional fans on this website. Not surprisingly, people are overrating Dawson's weaknesses and ignoring his glaring advantages over Kessler. First off, this fight would be at LHW. There's a good reason Kessler is squeezing down to 168 instead of fighting at 175. As far as people questioning Dawson's chin, defense, and stamina they are definately exaggerating. Dawson is not a bad defensive fighter. However, he gets too comfortable in the ring sometimes which causes him to get lazy. His chin is suspect, but I doubt it would fail him against a guy coming up from SMW. His stamina hasn't seemed to be much of an issue either. Now let's look at how these guys matchup. The best way to beat Dawson seems to be to apply constant pressure. He's a natural righty, and he doesn't seem to have the power in that straight left that most lefties use to keep orthodox fighters off of them. However, Kessler is not a pressure fighter. Kessler is the prototypical straight up and down Euro 1-2 fighter. His whole offense is setup with his jab and he doesn't do much in terms of body work. Kessler can't outbox Dawson. Dawson is taller, longer, faster, and fights out of a southpaw stance. Kessler won't be too succesful in terms of establishing his jab. Once he can't get in that jab, what's he going to do? The answer is, there won't be much he can do. He'll get befuddled and lose a clear decision. This is a terrible matchup for Kessler. He matches up worse against Dawson than he did against aging, SMW Calzaghe.
Good stuff.:good Dawson has the styles advantage in this fight. Most of these people voting for Kessler don't have a clue.
Here's the thing, I suspect many of them do have a clue. Some are Kessler fans, so I expect them to pick Kessler. Many of them are Calzaghe fans. Calzaghe fans are notorious for overhyping guys that he fought. Had Kessler never fought Calzaghe, many of them wouldn't give two shits about him. However, in a transparent attempt to pump up Calzaghe's resume, they act like Kessler is an ATG. Many of them will claim that he's a top 10 p4p fighter. Look at how they all **** on Pavlik. I bet if Calzaghe decides to fight Pavlik, they'll claim overrate the hell out of him as well after the fight is over.
