Kessler claimed there was nothing wrong with his hand straight after the Calzaghe fight, but even so remember Calzaghe fought most of his fights with injured hands and sometimes didnt do any sparring. Against Ward Kessler was suffering eye problems which is a very serious thing to go into battle with
Kessler wouldn't take anything away from Calzaghe and he did take the fight knowing about his injury. Still the hand was surgically repaired afterwards.
Call it what you want and interpret the facts the way you want. If you think a broken hand bears no signifikance, then that is your opinion. Not mine.
It seems forgotten that Calzaghe fought with broken hands or damaged hands most of his career and often couldnt spar before fights
Kessler went into the fight as close to 100% as you could get. He came out of the fight citing excuses. Man up and accept it - Calzaghe was just too good
In fairness to Kessler, I have not heard an excuse from him. After the Calzaghe fight when asked he said the hand was no problem
I think that if kessler was going to have any chance against ward he would have shown something in the fight, but he didnt show he could come up with any tactic to worry ward. If kessler was fighting at home it would have been a lot closer but unless ward really dropped his level i couldnt see him winning. But you never know, fighting in unfamiliar surrounding and with a hostile crowd against you can play havoc with some fighters performance but one thing for sure, ward would never get away with what he did with his head against kessler, that was plain fouling and dangerous
Kessler was badly treated in the Ward fight however you look at it, held constantly, headbutted and at the end of round 3 after landing a good shot on Ward, Ward complains about Kesslers head :-(, unbelieveable
Then Kessler's agood sport as well as a once phenominal boxer. Shame about what happened to him after the Calzaghe fight, he could have done so much more. Palle is an absolute *******
Yeah that was one of the most unreal things in the fight. Kessler was the one closest to be DQ'ed. The referee went to his corner to tell him to stop holding while Ward's offenses went totally uncalled! :yikes
Kessler was never the same after Calzaghe.. And yes Kessler lost to Calz.. But have the fight been in Denmark, I think Kessler would have won. Calzaghe would have gone down with that uppercut in 3-4 round. And then the scene has been different, Kessler would have fought Hopkins. Kessler lost to Calzaghe, and had problems with promoter. We never saw the same Kessler.. The true Kessler owned Andrade a way Bute could never do. The True Kessler would Eat Froch anytime. The true Kessler would go to the finals and meet Ward. It would be a close fight. But.. Kessler would win. If Stieglizt kan own Ward, so could the OLD Kessler. Noobdy where wrong. Kessler would Win S6 if it wasnt for inavtive and Slappy Calz. After Kessler lost all belts to Calzaghe, every1 where sure that Kessler would take em all back. Since then he had WBA and WBC in a bad form. Kessler was unlucky. Had he signed with Sauerland in his early carreer, then it would have been different. But he started a good connection with Sauerland and upcoming Danish fighters.. So look forward to more Viking Warriors in the near future! And yes. Kessler willl be back, and he will take a belt, might even win against Bute 1 day even in bad form. But he will never beat fighters like Ward. He just became to slow and forward.
