too bad kessler has met his quota for only 1 **** fight per year already, now we have to wait until 2013 for him to get his lazy ass in the ring
Not that it matters, that fight is not going to happen anyways, they both bring in big money under Sauerland no matter who they're facing so why risk either of them against each other? (Edit: of course I say this and then I see that the scene of boxing has a report that the fight is a possibility. I remain skeptical, but it's nice to see a report out of it) Arthur Abraham's run at SMW would seem to indicate that he would have a lot of trouble in a matchup against Kessler (size, workrate, power, etc). That's just my opinion. What's yours?
Kessler should be the favorite going in and I'd expect him to win a decision over Abraham. But, he's becoming a part-time fighter and who knows just what he has left in him. Abraham has had a busy year and is on a little bit of a run so an Abraham ko wouldn't be a huge shock. I'm skeptical this fight happens since they both seem like draws on their own and don't need to fight each other, but I wouldn't mind seeing it. I'm not crazy about Kessler rematching Ward at the moment and Froch and Bute seem tied up with each other so a fight with each other isn't a bad idea while other things play out.
Totally agree. 2 fighters under the same banner Abraham isnt likely to win any BIG fights but he can rack up a few defenses against lower competition whilst Kessler who is larger and more talented can pick up wins over the top tier thus keeping stock in both fighters and making twice as much money Abraham (having just won the title) can take a voluntary fight and I even heard them matching him up against Felix Sturm which has been brewing for years and quite frankly and interesting matchup Sadly after that the WBO rankings look like this : 1 Arthur Abraham 2 Mikkel Kessler - Same stable = not happening 3 George Groves - Big step up for groves but possible win 4 Andre Dirrell - Rematch would have to be in Germany 5 Kelly Pavlik - VERY possible 6 Anthony Dirrell - Again pretty possible and sellable 7 James DeGale - Big step up for Degale 8 Adonis Stevenson - is fighting in an IBF eliminator 9 Sakio Bika - WAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRR!!!!!!!! 10 Lucian Bute - Bute would be very dangerous, chance of a KO either way People can say what they like about the WBO but when you have a top 10 like this Abraham isnt likely to get an easy ride. Bika V Abraham would turn some heads. Even without avenging his losses to Froch and Ward he has some exciting prospects As for Kessler he also has a large list to pick from : Carl Froch 2 - Nuff said Andre Ward 2 - Avenge his loss Sakio Bika - Bika gives a good fight against anyone. FACT Adonis Stevenson - not likely until early next year but good fight to set up for Froch 2 seeing as Stevenson is practically in line to fight Froch next Kelly Pavlik - Depending on whether or not he fights Froch next, Kessler is the next best thing Jean Pascal - Kesslers last fight against Green was at 175 and given how he was troubled early on Team Pascal might be eager to take him on Tavoris Cloud - Why wait for Froch at 168? would make the rematch even tastier if it was fought for a second weight division title! Bernard Hopkins - More of a scalp taking into account Hopkins age. but people have counted him out before (Taylor loss. Calzaghe loss. Dawson etc.) Nathan Cleverly - Go back to Wales and take on the "New Calzaghe" Chad Dawson - Win or Lose Dawson will have a title belt round his waist. Kessler has a wide selection of opponents from 168 - 175 all of which are mouth watering
Froch would want the fight in Nottingham, which would not favor Kessler. Ward only fights in Oakland and we all know how the refereeing and judging goes on there. Bika is high risk low reward. Jean Pascal would fade in the later rounds but would be a good fight. Kelly Pavlik would probably be ideal as a low risk medium reward fight. I hope Hopkins doesn't take the fight.
