That's a fight Johnson is willing to take I think they should meet at either a catch weight or light heavyweight for Glen's title but it would be a awesome fight!!!

Kessler won't be going up to LHW to fight Johnson. I'm not interested in this fight anyway. I want to see Johnson take on Diaconu and then Dawson.

There is enough at 168. Kessler doesn't need to go up in weight.

Kesslers main problem, which many people in here fail to grasp, is that he grew up in Denmark, which is a very small country with only one major promoter: Mogens Palle.

When Kessler turned pro in the late 90's he signed a contract with Mogens Palle, because at that time (and now) he was the only major player in Denmark who could build up Kesslers career.
Mogens Palle however is a ruthless C***, who always writes in an insurance policy in his contracts with his fighters, to make sure they don't walk out on him.
The terms have been different, but the outline pretty much the same:
If the fighter breaks the contract with Palle, he will suffer a quarantine from fighting (usually 2 years, only starting when the fighter is no longer ranked in any of the federations), and cannot sign with another promoter until after the quarantine.
This is exactly what happened to Mads Larsen. He walked out on Palle, had to do the time, and is now struggling to get back on top, while he wasted his prime in quarantine.

So for the young fighters in Denmark, you're pretty much screwed, 'cause there is only Palle, and if you don't like his terms, well... Don't sign the contract, and don't get any fights....

    So.....
All this crap about Kessler should do this or that.....
Well, he is effectively at Palles mercy now.
Their contract gives Palle the promoting rights for Kesslers next 3 voluntary defenses of the WBA-strap, and if Kessler doesn't like the opposition, well, then he can walk....
-Right into the quarantine stated in the contract he signed himself....

The only hope for Kessler is, that Palle is tired of this circus as well, and will accept a single sum from Kessler (and maybe a future promoter), thus buying him out of the contract.
With the money Kessler has earned over the years, I guess he could pay a decent amount, and Kessler does represent a good investment for any promoter...

From my understanding, the fight with Larsen is sort of a cop-out that Mikkel needs make in order to get out early from his contract with Palle. Mikkel is contractually obliged to take another 3 fights for Palle, but Palle wants to retire and has sort of implied that if Mikkel will fight Larsen, then he will let Mikkel go.

Palle just wants to make one last big Danish card. Kessler-Larsen would be huge in Denmark - Soccer stadium huge. There is millions to be made from this fight, Palle knows this, and he has little regard for the competitive merits of such a fight.

Yes, because its all down to Kessler. Let's be totally naive to the situation.

    Good post.

True, very true. Mogens Palle is about to retire anyway, so he just wants his recognition in his homecountry, and one last big event. He knows he will not get a better risk/reward/recognition scenario in Denmark than the Larsen fight, so of course he jumps for it.
The only other problem is, that Kessler has another contract with Mogens' daughter Betina Palle until february 2010 as his manager....

I don't think Kessler needs to go up in weight for this fight. If Dawson comes down, that is another story.

I've been told that Betina won't continue the business on her own when her dad retires. In other words, it probably ends with Mogens.

Yes, I've heard that too, which is both good and bad for boxing in Denmark.

But mostly good for Kessler whos career has grown too large for the Palle family to manage properly.

I know Palle has been in the business for 50+ years, but has mostly had fighters at eurochamp-level, and only a few world-champs, and Kessler is undoubtly the biggest fighter he has ever had (and made most cash on).
I don't think Mogens Palle has not been trying to get Kessler promoted, but I think his vision has just been to limited, because Palle has been used to being a little fish in a big fish bowl for so many years....

But let's see who Kessler turns to, when Palle quits...
    Sauerland, GBP, Calzaghe ???

Golden Boy would be a great move.

rather then fight Johnson at a catch weight (which I heard somewhere)

Mikkel should try to get the Froch/Taylor winner.
