How would Mikkel Kessler have fared against the 43 year old Hopkins who KD Joe Calzaghe?
Would he have a chance, or lose because of Hopkins destroying his gameplan with his mastermind?

I actually believe Kessler matches up better with Hopkins than Calzaghe does.

Hopkins is great at fighting southpaws. Kessler has only fought 2 his entire career (and one of them totally sucked).
Give Kessler an orthodox guy and..

jab jab jab jab jab jab jab - ambulance!

Wily Hopkins would give Frankenstein stiff Kessler a lot of problems. Kessler's jabs might very well end in a win by decision, but it would not be pretty and would not be a walk in the park for Kessler. I do agree though that Calzaghe's square in front style does lend itself perfectly to Hopkins' style of countering. I'm surprised team Calzaghe didn't realize that before they made the fight.

I'll have to go with Kessler by SD for having a higher workrate.

I don't know too much about Kessler. How is his work rate?

    Kessler UD.

Should do it more cleanly than Joe, because he isn't as aggressive. He can stand at range, and force Hopkins to come to him out of his comfort zone, or risk getting outworked anyway. It would be a boring fight though.

Any top tier fighter with a respectable workrate would beat Hopkins nowadays. Don't get me wrong, Hopkins would fight in spots and do enough to complain about the decision but no way does he fight to win for 12 rounds.

beating a 43 year old hopkins(which i dont think he did) doesnt make calzghe top tier. niether is kessler. just my opinion. hopkins of even 2 years ago would have smashed calzaghe even more. and pavlik would take both of them
