Yeah, but Joe's activity and aggressiveness forced Hopkins to move for 12 rounds and Hopkins tired out later on. And that was a big factor. Hopkins would rather take boxing match where he's not pressured so much and Kessler would provide that.

Kessler is very conventional. I see Hopkins getting his timing down and coutnering effectively. I also see him landing his share of right hand leads. He'll make it ugly as usual.

I think a decision could go either way but it will be close enough where Hopkins can and will gripe about the decision if he loses. :good

Hopkins whines when he clearly loses 116-112, so thats not a suprise

Hopkins didn't look outstanding against Wright, who forced Hopkins to come out of his comfort zone. He doesn't like forcing the pace himself, this is why he was a bad stylistic match for Calzaghe, because Joe played into his hands coming forward like that

Kessler would fight more like Wright. Standing off, boxing, not really doing anything outstanding but enough to outwork an old Hopkins unless he does something different. Only Kessler is much bigger and stronger, and could live with Hopkins dirty inside stuff, unlike Wright.

Of course Kessler would have to fight differently against a prime Hopkins, who fought with a different style entirely.

I didn't see it that way. I will agree that Winky forced Hopkins out of his comfort zone with his activity but that was also part of Hopkins' plan. He took away his opponents best weapon. In this case, Winky's jab, with constant movement. That's why i thought he would do the same against Calzaghe. But Calzaghe's pace was noticeably harder than the pace Winky set and Hopkins tired out.

But Hopkins owned Winky in that fight IMO. Winky was out of his elements. Hopkins landed the much harder and cleaner shots both from the outside and inside. I see your point about Kessler being able to take Hopkins' inside flurries better. Winkys' punches had nothing on them. Lederman, who was so biased in his scoring for Winky, even had to score it a draw no matter how biased he tried to be. And i believe the judges had it 9-3, 9-3, and 8-4 for Hopkins. It wasn't close.

The most shocking part of this fight was Winky doing his usual, "I can't believe it" reaction when they read the scorecards.

Well yeah, Winky has no business above 160 at all from a physical viewpoint. The judges cards were a bit wide though, 8-4 is more plausible. Could even see a 7-5 if we're pushing it.

I think, not being southpaw, Kessler would fare better

Hopkins UD....Kessler is too mechanical to beat Bernard and lacks any semblance of a PLAN B....Hopkins counters him EASILY all night long. This is a TERRIBLE matchup for Kessler.

It's hard to hit someone that holds 14 times each round, which is the only reason he didn't get spanked.

How can Hopkins outpoint Kessler? He almost delivers twice the amount of shots, and with great accuracy.

    styles, styles, styles...

calzaghe is more open to b-hops counterpunches the way he presses. kessler isnt as open. hes more along the lines of taylor with the jab and stand-up skills, except hes better.

I say Hopkins by decision, but it'd be a close fight.

True. The styles favor Kessler. Kessler is a more polished and active version of Taylor. I would favor Kessler, but Hopkins will make it an ugly fight that might be difficult to score.

Any sane person scored the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight 8-4 or 9-3. The fight was ugly, because Hopkins didn't want to box, and Calzaghe wanted to brawl with Hopkins.

Kessler fights from distance, and with authority. Hopkins is a smart guy - I give him that, but he can't outpoint Kessler.

    1) At least you had the right winner.
    2) Why would Kessler need to adjust? He can just do his thing, and outpoint Hopkins.
