I think there is a saying in the US that goes something like "**** or get off the pot." To me that is the situation Kessler faces. If Glenns offer is genuine, Kessler should take it without too much BS surrounding negotiations. It is a wonderful opportunity for Kessler to show his face against a fighter that still counts. And the fight itself could be great to watch in terms of styles IMO. From the danish sources given by Faetter_BR it's kind of hard to see if Palle is genuine or if he's just playing the violin and preparing the ground for a legal battle with Kesslers lawyers. I wish someone in the States could offer some more substance to these rumours!
Agreed. From what Palle says I don't know how genuine he sounds about this, or if he's just trying to reach out to Kessler. I called for this fight for a while, it would be great.
Hopefully Kessler would get a lot of credit if he won, considering what Johnson showed us against Dawson :good
Well this beats a Larsen fight by a lightyear. This is the fight it shall be and providing that Kessler wins and that the fight is shown on a major network it should make the foundation for a fight with Taylor or similar. I do not think that this fight is easier than any Froch or Taylor fight though.
I agree with TFFP and co. here. It's quite obvious that if the guy is regularly weighing a couple of pounds inside the light heavy limit then he ain't exactly struggling to make weight - how often do you see world class fighters weight in more than about half a pound inside the weight limit? If you're drained to make the limit itself then to do so would be simply to drain yourself even more unnecessarily. Regarding it not being easy to hit an exact limit, of course it is, you have scales, that's what they have practice weigh ins for. Most of the time all the fighter will do if he's really cutting it is dry out in the sauna then rehydrate immediately after the weigh in. Johnson;s last fight was a stay-busy tune-up and has no bearing whatsoever on the matter. But IMHO to blame Kessler for deliberately trying to "weight weaken" Johnson when Johnson made the offer and then trying to claim that Johnson was offering a weight he would be weak at just to get the fight with a guy who is currently nothing at light heavy as he has never even fought there is just pathetic! Credit to Johnson though at least he is showing more willingness to try and genuinely make this fight than Dawson did. Re: the fight, I think Kessler should snap his hand off if the terms are reasonable, a fight against a guy who is a big name to the US public who he would absolutely dominate!
What an awesome fight this would be! Is it just me, or anyone else feel the similarities with the Calzaghe-Hopkins-Pavlik situation, where one fighter barely beat the old man and the other moved up to show he can do a lot better? Of course Kelly failed bigtime, but deserves tons of credit for taking the harder path to get a Calzaghe fight. Kessler could give hard evidence vs. Johnson that he's better than Dawson, so he should take it. I think Johnson, a former MW could easily make 171-2, never really grew into the division, his toughness comes from the insane pressure and shitloads of punches anyway, and he was 172 vs. Dawson. He'd force Kessler into a very dramatic fight, so bring it on!
This would be a great challenge for Kessler, and the perfect oponent for him, to show the americans what he can do! nobody would call Johnson washed up or a bum, after what he did to Dawson! so no excuses can be made if Kess beat him! But i would not get to excited about this fight, before both have signed the contract.. but i sure hope it happends!
It would be a helluva fight between a guy who has the potential to be a great fighter in Kessler, and a guy who is a great fighter in Johnson. I will be pulling for Johnson but I think that the younger man might be a little too quick for him.
