The difference between Pavlik and Kessler's punches is the speed and the accuracy... Kessler is very accurate. Of course it's safe to say that he hits harder because he's got a very good punch, and while Pavlik is a big MW, Kessler is a big SMW... Remember that 168 is a whole new weight class for Miranda, the punches are bigger, more weight behind them...

Hold on guys: an internet source says Kessler-Miranda is NOT DONE yet... could be in jeopardy? Kessler's USA agent Michael Marley refused to comment, but it's not done and nobody is talking about how close it is to sign the contracts...

This fight HAS to be made!

I agree with the conservative part. On the other hand, I see Mirandas footwork just about slow enough for Mikkel to obtain a foot-stance that'll give him a chance to deliver his most powerful KO punch. Something that never happened against Calzaghe because of Calzaghes constant and fast movements. In whatever way I look at this fight, I just can't see it going the distance. Both fighters have plenty of
power to end the "party" by KO. Since Kess is the more technically gifted I think he has the most to gain from staying conservative the first few rounds. I know it's not Kesslers style but anything else is too dangerous IMO. If then Kess can stay clear of Mirandas early rounds
onslaught I imagine Kess catching Miranda at point blank...game over a la Rodriquez!

The fight is still on boxrec and still Montreal as the venue... it's quite interesting that there was no word in the media about Canada, no confirmation about Montreal... and now the only info is that it's not yet a done deal...

    Anyone anything new?

just heard last Friday's interview with GYM's president, Yvon Michel. He discusses Miranda vs Kessler and the possibility of this fight taking place in Montreal.

He says Miranda's promoter is Leon Margules of Warrior productions in Florida, who has previously worked in association with GYM. And the one who represents Mikkel Kessler in America is Lou DiBella, another promoter who is friends with GYM promotions.

Yvon Michel then says that Mikkel Kessler accepts to fight Edison Miranda but refuses to go to Florida, where the Hard Rock Cafe would have been the preferred venue for this bout in May.

Because there has already been discussions about bringing Miranda to Montreal and because GYM has good relations with Miranda's promoters, Warrior productions contacted GYM and asked them if they would be interested in hosting the Miranda vs Kessler bout, which will be broadcast on Showtime on May 24th, in Montreal. GYM replied that they are very interested.

Yvon Michel then says that first of all there would have to be one of GYM's top fighters on the TV broadcast, which shouldn't be a problem. Second of all, and its very important, the Bell Center would have to be available on May 24th because there's no other venue where they could really pull that kind of event off here.

They spoke to the manager of the Bell Center to see the availability of the venue and they were told that every saturday was reserved for the NHL playoffs. The hockey team in Montreal is doing really well and there are chances that they'll go far in the playoffs. May 24th would coincide with the 7th game of the 3rd round of the playoffs if it were to come off.

So GYM was told by the Bell Center that they would check with the NHL and the Canadians (Montreal hockey team) and that they would answer him on Monday (today) to see if its possible to liberate the date of May 24th.

Yvon Michel then says there's alot of imponderable factors but that it would an extraordinary opportunity especially considering that the conditions being offered to GYM are very good. Its just question of logistics to see if they can book the venue and book the date.

The interviewer then says that May 24th is close to the Month of June when there is the Formula One race in Montreal. He asks if it would be possible to bring the Miranda vs Kessler bout on June 7th.

Yvon Michel answers that Showtime has reserved June 7th for the broadcast of Vernon Forrest vs Sergio Mora and the rematch between Carlos Quintana and Paul Williams. So Showtime already has a event which they already gave to another promoter. GYM asked Showtime if they could do an exchange and have the June 7th card on May 24th and vice versa but the answer was no.

Then the interviews asks Yvon Michel (Pantera will be interested by this one)

    "Kessler vs Miranda who wins?"

Yvon Michel: I think its Kessler. Listen, I asked the question to Leon Margules, Miranda's promoter, "Other than money why are you taking this matchup, it seems to me that Kessler has too much skill for Miranda" and Margues replied "No, our whole group here is convinced that Miranda is gonna KO Kessler".

Yvon Michel goes on to say: I disagree, I think that Kessler is too brilliant, too mobile, too tall and too quick for Miranda, but its still a fight that is extremely interesting. For sure when you're fighting against Miranda you have to be on the edge of your seat because anything can happen at any time and its certain that Kessler will be tested in terms of his chin and his capacity to take a good shot. One thing for sure is that in this division this is a high caliber fight, a fight that opposes two of the best boxers in the division.

    Interviewer:

"This is a fight that would interest me, Yvon Michel, but in Quebec would we be able to fill the Bell Center or would it be the Bell Center Theater configuration (a seat configuration that can seat 5,000 - 9,000 people rather than 20,000).

    Yvon Michel:

It would be full capacity but thats the thing, our first condition is that we can have one of our big profile & high level boxers implicated in this card. It would take either Alcine or Ngoudjo or Pascal or if there's a possibility more than one.

With Ngoudjo we're gonna have a purse bid for a title eliminator probably by the end of next week (which is this week) or the beginning of the following week (next week) and with Alcine we're gonna have a purse bid at the end of March. For Alcine its a mandatory defence against Daniel Santos and we would just need to win one of those purse bids to put one of those fighters on this card.

Thanks for the info. It doesnt surprise me Yvon favors Kessler, most people do. And of course Leon Margules, Miranda's promoter, thinks his guy is going to win.

As far as Montreal goes, it is far from a done deal. Other venues are being considered, but Montreal is definately one of the top choices as this point from what I here.

Very good comeback fight for Kessler. Just a pity he waited so long to get back in the ring. But it's a step in the right direction for his career. Look good against Miranda and then hopefully set up a fight with winner of Froch/Inkin.

Miranda is one hell of a fighter though. Willing to fight anyone.
